Some Secret Zones of Your Window XP!!!!!!!!

July 29, 2008 by Kurt Avish

I guess most of us must have a copy of Window XP running at home. Well for a fact I also know that all of you know all of the different applications…such as notepad…windows media player…wordpad…msn..etc etc.

But did you know there are some hidden but somehow quite useful applications deeeeeeep inside XP??? As usual I was running around like a mad guy on google this morning to see whats new to learn….and I found these. Check this out.

1. Create your own “simple” software Installer with IExpress!!

IExpress can be used to create setup programs. You can create self-extracting files that automatically run the setup program contained inside. IExpress technology automatically removes the setup files after installation! So don’t cry around asking everyone how to create simple installers.

To access it Go to START –> RUN and enter iexpress and press enter.

2. Dr Watson!

Dr. Watson for Windows is a program error debugger. The information obtained and logged by Dr. Watson is the information needed by technical support groups to diagnose a program error for a computer running Windows. A text file (Drwtsn32.log) is created whenever an error is detected or a program crashes, and can be delivered to support personnel by the method they prefer. You also have the option of creating a crash dump file, which is a binary file that a programmer can load into a debugger.

To access it Go to START –> RUN and enter drwtsn32 and press enter.

3. Private Character Editor

You know about photo editor or paint??!!! But you knew about the Private Character Editor? It is used in conjunction with the Character Map and provides a way to create your own fonts and logos!!! Try having fun with it.

To access it Go to START –> RUN and enter eudcedit and press enter.

The 13th Dark Side of Me!!

My world’s surrounded by flames
The devil is not ashamed
Of the violence and the sins
Its time i wish to be reborn
Just look in my eyes
As you see all the lies of the world
All these things you see
Which you can’t denied

I saw the slaves
That the world made to look brave
I see lucifer playing his guitar
But yet you can’t hear it
You can’t hear me
Don’t run away today
I want you to feel the pain
To see my evil side

You’re gonna pray
You’re gonna stay
Even if you run away
Even if you forget me one day
The string is in his hands
While you shall feel the misery

Does good things stay?? Does the world do any good?? Are hearts made up of steel?? Or is it that some of us are alien here??

SMS Betting In Mauritius!!

July 26, 2008 by Kurt Avish

SMS betting is now available in Mauritius! Since last 3 weeks testing for sms betting was being done at management level only. The latest news is that Global Sports (Tote Lepep) and SuperTote started sms betting on thursday 24 July 2008.

What is SMS betting?

SMS betting is just betting but via SMS!! We currently have horse racing bettings and also football bettings which are legal in Mauritius. By the way…another news…Football betting for Premier League matches has already started!!! Rush and lose your money quickly!!

So as you already know, betting in Mauritius is available via direct-teller-betting and also phone betting! SO now the newbie is that you can even bet with your mobile phone!

How this work?

To bet via sms, you MUST have an account at the betting company (Tote Lepep or Supertote or Bet Online). Its the same account which you use to bet by phone! So if you have an account, you just register your mobile number…for the steps to do this…you must contact your betting company and they will give you a booklet on how to set this up!

Then to bet…you will simply type an sms and send it and the money you bet will be automatically deducted from your betting account. SMS betting is better than phone betting as the problem of not accessing the phone betting agent is out. You will not complain that you didnt get the line or whatever…

SO happy betting loosers…go and lose your money and make them rich while you become a miser….

Actual Cost of A Basic Yet Powerful Student PC!

July 22, 2008 by Kurt Avish
Filed under PC and Security, Web2.0 & PC

Following the NET PC demolition process…lol….Now I wanna write about how you can yourself buy all the computer parts and get your own basic student pc at low cost! All at only Rs13450!!!

The NET PC is crap!!! Unless you got some kitty sh*ts inside your brain I’ll advise to not go for it! Well if you wanna get the most stupid system with 30 hours of stupid internet connection to use Microsoft Office then…..Go for it and…also get away from here.

I’ve look on the web for recent pricing of computer parts. I am taking the example here based on the price of PASCAL COMPUTERS. I am in no way affiliated to them and this post is only to give an example but I think you can even get the peripherals used here at cheaper price at some other pc resellers too.

The specifications:

Motherboard Asus P5GC MX/1333 (Graphic and Sound Card Integrated) – Rs 1950
Processor Celeron 1.7 430 – Rs1850
RAM 512 MB DDR2 – Rs 600
ASUS Casing – Rs 1350
Maxtor or Samsumg HARD DISK 80 GB SATA – Rs1700
Normal Speakers – Rs 300
Multimedia Keyboard – Rs 300
Prolink 15 CRT Monitor – Rs 2300
ASUS DVD Writer 20X Light Scribe – Rs 1250
Optical Mouse PMO 138U – Rs200

This gives a total of Rs 11800. Now with some bargain you can easily get it all at Rs 11000! Add the VAT to it…and it become Rs 12650…Yea the government does make you su*k with the VAT even when you are buying a pc lol.

Now you can mount it yourself or pay a “not-so-mean” technician Rs800 and he will mount it all the very same day for you! Total therefore is Rs13450. By the way I hate those technicians who rib people off and take Rs 2000 to mount a pc!!! I wonder how much they would have taken if they were actual engineers!!! Yea I know some “technicians-only” who take large sums of money from people to just do this simple work!

This pc can easily be used by every student for regular internet surf, downloads and many many other uses. As far as operating system is concerned…Pascal Computers will give you a free dvd of fedora or Kubuntu if you ask. Or if you still want windows…then you know the trick…ask a friend lol. As far as office is concerned….this one too you can ask a friend :-) or use open source ones. Softwares are easily downloaded on the net and there are also much more better open source ones. Antivirus??? I don’t depend on NORTON!!!! Till today I am safe with the free AVG 8.0!!!

Well this is not the cheapest pc as you may be noticing but still it is cheap and a reliable pc… better than NET PC en tou ka :-) !!!

Now for those who will take a DBM loan for this, just ask the company where you are buying it a quotation and with the DBM loan you will be paying only Rs 385 per month for this pc for 3 years.

Take a MyT or Nomad connection and enjoy. If you will not be using too much internet…better you take the MTML internet Express connection! Its a dial up and cost Rs 20 per hour including VAT. But the speed is honorable for a dial up!!! I used that since for 4 months…i liked it. But I switched to nomad coz I spend a lot of time online and the bills was going…..HOT!!! :-)

Now if you are looking for a pc technician who will mount your pc….well I can do it but am busy with final year project..so forget me lol. But any technician who happen to come here…do leave your contact details…free advertising for once lol.

Truth about the Net PC of Mauritius Telecom

July 20, 2008 by Kurt Avish

The advantages…well i think everyone has read about it in the newspapers and billboards and all. What about the stuffs they don’t really tell you “right-to-your-ears”??!!

First the cost: Rs 4300 including VAT – Everyone knows!

Cheaper than a pc but when u think that its just good to surf the net and for online stuffs…. well…its depends whether u want a real pc which is far much better or you just want your child to glue himself on hi5 or facebook for 30 hours per month!

Monthly Fees: Rs 490

So lets be the mathematician:

Rs 490 per month…mean Rs17640 in 3 years!!! + the Net Pc which u bought at 4300…therefore the total after 3 years is Rs21940!!!

Great! Do you know that you can get a very reliable pc suitable for the net and also doing other resource-needed work for only about Rs 15000???!!! If you can’t pay Rs 15000 right now…why not take a PC loan at the DBM and buy a real pc??

Now about the internet connection…its good to know that with the NET PC you get ONLY 30 HOURS of surfing per month!!! Thats is about 1 hour per day! Why giving a connection speed of 256 when we get only 1 hour per day??

Well i think this package is good for the below average internet users…or students of standard 3 at the primary school!!! 1 hour per day???

The Net PC package includes the following: Unlimited Access to software : Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2007 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook Express), Internet Explorer 7.0 and Adobe Acrobat reader…..Damn….come on buddy…we get these for free on the net lol….or ask some friends parci parla to pou gagne cd installation la lol.

Now about storage space you get on their server: ONLY 0.5 Gb!!!!! To save your word or powerpoint documents well i think its enough…hmm if you have only this to do. Better using google doc naa???

So now the cool things….

Did you know that the beautiful flat LCD screen in the ads is not included in the NET PC package??

This should have been the real ads

The package consist of only the Net Pc Box, the keyboard of Rs 300 and the mouse of Rs 200 lol. So for those who were thinking that….”wai serye mo pou gagne un flat lcd monitor dan Rs 4000″….stop dreaming.

More questions????

ok lets see the most wanted ones right from the FAQs….

1. Can I use a local scanner or webcam or external CD/DVD drive with Net PC?

  • The answer is NO!!! Not for the time being

2. Can I do programming using NetPC?

  • Ofcourse NO!!! You will be allowed to use only software installed on our servers, namely MicrosoftOffice 2007 (Excel, Word and Powerpoint), Internet Explorer, Outlook Express andAdobe Acrobat. Programming is not possible on the NetPC.

3. Can I download and install my own software and applications?

  • No! Preventive measures!!!

4. Can I watch youtube videos?

  • Yes, you can. But you must know that streaming video requires heavy bandwidth and
the quality of the video will not be optimum.

5. Is the ADSL internet unlimited in the NetPC offer?

  • No, the internet is limited to 30 hours per month. Any excess surfing time will be billed at
50cts/min. Please note that the 30 hours are not carried forward to the next month.
  • So i use 4 hours per day!
  • That is 120 hours per month!
  • Thats is by minus the 30 hours with the package i have 90 hours en plus…which is 90 x Rs 30 = Rs 2700!!!
  • So if i use my 4 hours per day with Net PC….its Rs 2700 + Rs 490 = Rs 3190 per month!!!

The only good side with NET PC is that there is no restriction on volume used….but what is the use if you get only 500 Mb of storage??? Even if you manage to use the 30 hours intelligently to download….but where??? Connecting an external hard disk??? Isn’t it better to buy a pc then??

Last note: Sorry to you MT…this article is not to attack your marketing of NET PC but just a way to show what is NET PC really….

More details about the faqs of Net Pc can be found on the website of Mauritius Telecom or downloaded here.

A+

By the way did you know that there are people who do strikes again KFC????

I don’t understand what is their problem!!! If they don’t wanna eat…don’t eat!!! Why promoting an antiKFC campaign???

They behave as if we are fucking the chickens!!!!

Anyway I don’t care about them. Well I won’t be eating KFC for the next months thats for sure!

Installing and Testing Joomla on Your Own PC!!!

July 13, 2008 by Kurt Avish
Filed under University of Mauritius, Web2.0 & PC

Yashvin started a post on how to install and use wordpress on your own pc some days ago. I was thinking since some days to write a tutorial about installing and using JOOMLA on your own pc. I got a mail from a friend yesterday and asking me how to install joomla on pc and use it. So I say lets write this tutorial.

Many people don’t know about joomla. Joomla is the latest trend and is one of the most powerful Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet. It is used all over the world for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. Joomla! is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable. For more info about joomla…click here.

So how to install it on your own pc for testing and learning to use it?

Step 1

First you need a local web server on your pc which support php! Easy PHP is the hero in this movie! You must download and install a copy of easyphp! Click here to download one now…or if the link don’t work…just google it and download a copy from anywhere else.

Step 2

Now you need to install the EASYPHP you just downloaded! I don’t need to tell you how to install i hope?? :-)

Step 3

Okies buddy…you got a web server on your pc now…so what next?? RUN IT NOW! Start the easy php.

Important: If everything works fine then you should see this…

Picture from blog.yashvin.net

If you see something like the picture above then everything is fine. Minimise it and move to step 5!!!

Else if you get the error as shown below…

Then you need to make some modifications! Normally you will get this error if there is another web server on your pc which is using the default port 80. For example on many computer there is IIS which is another web server most comonly used for ASP pages. If IIS is installed then it is already using the port 80.

So the ti fix this problem, you just have to allocate another port to Easyphp Apache server. Follow the next step to fix the problem.

Step 4

To fix the port problem you have to change the port of easyphp to 8086 or anyother free port. But in this example we will use port 8086.

1. Click on the E icon shown below.

2. Now an option list appear…click on CONFIGURATION….then select APACHE and click.
3. The file “httpd.conf” will open in notepad or wordpad.
4. On the notepad file httpd.conf… Select EDIT and click FIND
5. A small box will appear as shown below. In the “Find What” text field enter 80 and click FIND NEXT.

6. In the httpd.conf file all 80 will now be highlighted. Replace all 80 by 8086. Click FIND NEXT again in the box to find the other 80 and replace them with 8086 till you get the message “Cannot Find Next”.

7. Now close the box above. And go to httpd.conf and SAVE the file. Click SAVE!!! Dnt use SAVE AS!

8. Now close httpd.conf – Close the Easy php Small box too and restart Easyphp. It will now start and work fine.

Thats it…so now easyphp is working and you have a web server to run JOOMLA.

Step 5

Its time to download JOOMLA! Click here or go directly to Joomla”s official site to download it.

Step 6

Now go to the folder where you install easyphp. Normally it should be C:\Program Files\EasyPHP1-8\www but it may varies among computers. Go into the www folder of easyphp and paste the JOOMLA zip file you just downloaded there!

Extract the files using winzip or winrar. Thats it…Joomla in now on your pc!!! But how to run and set it up??? Continue reading…

Step 7

Now that Joomla is on your pc…its time to activate it. Remember that easyphp must be running for the server to work or you will get message “Unable to connect”! If you have at any time close the easyphp…then click and start easy php.

Open your web browser. In the address bar type: http://localhost:8086/

A list of folders in the www folder will appear in your web browser. Click on the folder for joomla!

You will now go to the pre-installation page of JOOMLA!

Click on NEXT as shown above. You will then go to the license page. Click on NEXT again.

Now you will go to the mysql database configuration page. Stay on hold here…dnt enter anything for now.

Open a new window and enter the address http://localhost:8086/mysql/

The mysql database manager will open. See the picture below for an example! Type JOOMLA….in capitals at the field for database name…mark with a red arrow below!

Now click CREATE…marked with a blue arrow above! And your database is created!!! You can now close this window.

Return to the Joomla set up window now! Fill all the fields.

Hostname enter: localhost
Mysql user name enter: root
Mysql password…leave it blank!!
Database name enter: JOOMLA

Now click NEXT ABOVE!!

Now step 2 of Joomla’s set up will appear…and enter a name for the website then click NEXT.

Complete step 3 by entering your email address at the email field and change the password to one of your wish! Click NEXT.

Here is it…you are at Joomla final installation page! But don’t click on anything yet!

Step 8

Now go to the Joomla Folder inside easy php! Delete the folder called “installation”!!! This is for your security reason!

Now return to your web browser and click View Site! You will be transported to your own joomla on your own pc!!! Thats it.

Now how to use Joomla??? Well thats a book i will have to write on lol. Go to joomla website for all the tutorials on how it can be use and add ons etc…

Now i would advise you to rename the folder where joomla’s files are to another easy name such as “myjoomla”.

And to access the website through your browser you will then have to type the address http://localhost:8086/myjoomla/

Hope the tutorial was useful for those who were looking for it.

Next post will be on????hmmm….KFC in Mauritius lol!!! Am hungry.
