‘The Taj Mahal has been attacked by terrorist early morning!’

I just translate it from French to English and thats what I heard on Radio Plus this morning. Indeed when I heard it I thought about the Taj Mahal and said WTF?!! I immediately switch on the TV to BBC News and it was not the Taj Mahal but infact the very famous Taj Mahal Hotel! Idiocracy and Sentionalism at Radio Plus Strike again!
The Real News – The Taj Mahal Hotel

The attack started in the late night (Yesterday). The map above shows the different attack points. It was a well planned attack of course and where many foreigners are to be found. Hah as I am writting this (7:30) I hear Radio Plus correcting their idiot mistake in the news saying that they missed it about the Taj Mahal and it is infact the Taj Mahal Hotel! :p

Assholes gunmens around the around of 18 to 25 carried out a rampage attack late late night and took many hostages in the two hotels named above. By the latest stats, about 80 people have been killed and over 250 injured.

Facts:

  • About 10 to 16 (Not 7 as mentioned on Radio Plus!) Locations hit including two famous hotels, Mumbai’s main computer train station, a hospital and a restaurant.
  • Bombs at the Taj Mahal Hotel
  • Armed bullshit are holding dozens of hostages in the two hotels
  • 11 Police officers killed during the shoot out including the head of Mumbai’s anti-terrorism unit and two other senior officers!
  • Terrorist were asking for American and British Passport holder!

ATS chief Karkare succumbs to injuries.
ATS chief Hemant Karkare, two senior police officers and 80 others were killed when terrorists struck with impunity in Mumbai on Wednesday night in coordinated multiple blasts and gunfire in a dozen areas including at iconic landmarks CST railway station and two five star hotels–Oberoi and Taj.

Karkare (54), who was probing the Malegaon blasts case, was gunned down when he was leading an operation at Hotel Taj against terrorists who had taken 15 people, including seven foreigners, as hostages. He was hit by three bullets in his chest. One MP Krishan Das and 200 people were stranded in Taj hotel.

Another IPS officer Ashok Marutirao Kamte, a 1989 batch IPS officer, was killed while fighting terrorists at Metro Cinema in the city along with encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar who also gunned down as one of the worst terror strikes brought Mumbai to the knees.

27 Nov 08 – 8:00: From the latest news, there are many hostage still in the Taj Hotel and there are terrorists still inside and are shooting out! The terrorists arrived in the city by small boats which have been seized for inspection by the police.

Commando forces have started infiltrating the building to eliminate those son of bitches. The terrorist also used a van to roam toward the hotel and shooting like mad at all people on the road using machine guns!

  • AK-47s, rifles and hand grenades were used at will by an unspecified number of terrorists.
  • A claim of responsibility has been made by a previously unknown group calling itself the Deccan Mujahideen.
  • Police accused Pakistan’s intelligence agency of planning those attacks, which they said were carried out by an Islamist militant group, Lashkar-e-Toiba.

Time to announce the winners of the Debojit Contest I organised some days ago. Today is the 26th of November and I did the little draw this morning. The draw was done using a little php randomer script I made. I assigned all the emails in my RSS Feed subscribers a number from 1 to 62 and did the draw twice as there are 62 email subscribers. A little change from what was planed… I finally decided to draw two winner from my RSS subscribers only.

Before announcing the winners names, a short note about the sponsor. The event is being organised by Vertrish Production. Tickets are being sold at the following locations:

  • Lakepoint Curepipe

The 2nd draw allocated the winning ticket to another RSS subscriber of mine and who is also a blogger. Its Sailesh. I contacted Sailesh but he was busy at noon today so one of his ‘proxy’ came to fetch the ticket. Unfortunately no picture of the proxy as she was afraid and in a hurry to run away when I asked her for a photograph WLOL. I guess she was panicked or had just listened to Runaway from Linkin Park :-p

So these are the winners. Thanks to all of you who participated. Once I tranfer my blog to wordpress and buy my own domain very soon, there will be more contests. I already got offers from two other web services which I will mention later.

By the way the competition at Daily Blog Tips is going on. I am currently at around position 28 among the 124 participants concerning the rss subscribers. Of course I am not winning it… but I am more than satisfy of the position and thank you to you all. Now its time to vote. Public vote is now available. Some Changes On Island Crisis

November 25, 2008 by Kurt Avish

I was busy thinking last night till around 23:00. I am thinking about many changes here on my blog and would like to know your opinion.

My blog is 6 months old now and I think its time for some very major changes and adding a real domain name for Island Crisis. I was thinking for www.islandcrisis.com but helas its already taken so I am most probably going for islandcrisis.net or islandcrisis.info

So what do you think?

Next major change is that I am thinking of migrating to Wordpress now! Blogspot is great but I always have the impression that I am not blogging for myself…that is I don’t own Island Crisis.

So I plan to switch to wordpress on paid hosting by December. Do you think its worth it?

The main problem will be to let all the visitors to know of my new address and also many of my photos will still be hosted on blogspot. So I will not be closing the blogspot blog but disable public viewing and disable search engine accessibility when I publish the wordpress one.

Why I am going for wordpress? Simply because its more flexible and I can customised it as I want. Also the feeling that I own my blog is another factor. I have already started working on the wordpress version on localhost. As for the template I guess I will be keeping the same one as I already got the wp version.

So what do you think? Is it time for a real change?

Post Nomad Technician Intervention!! – New Google Result Votes!

November 24, 2008 by Kurt Avish
Filed under Critics, Nomad, Web2.0 & PC

RIDICULOUS!! THATS NOMAD!!

Ridiculous is the word that best suite Nomad Internet! For those who missed the first episode, the have a look here for the last version and here for the anger version.

So today the technician from Nomad came home for an on-site test and unfortunately he could not do much! I wont curse the guy because he tried his best but finally find out that the problem is with the internet connection itself! Infact this morning I took my laptop and nomad modem and went to work. Nomad has their antenna just about 100 Meter from where I work at Vacoas. More precisely at A1 Vacoas. The connection was ok when I tested it there. So I knew that my modem was not faulty.

Getting back to the onsite test. So the guy tried to position the modem at different positions to obtain the best result. And the final conclusion was that the signal itself is low. I am getting my internet connection from La Louise Quatre Bornes antenna. Great! And I live at Vacoas! That’s another very reliable logic. Finally when he positioned in ON the TV furniture the signal went from 1 to 2! Innovative! So one advice to those who are running toward nomad… do have a high 2 meter height TV furniture at your place as you will very probably need to place it there to get some decent connection speed.

So the conclusion was that due to the promotion that nomad is doing, many people are using it and the connection is getting slow when many people…or many of the new subscribers are tasting their rabbit modem!

My question: Are they not supposed to upgrade their service as more new customers are using it? The answer is that MAYBE in January 2009 that there will be an upgrade! So users of nomad, while the nomad board of directors sucks their wives and take their time to decide when to upgrade… please be patient and you too learn to suck with your nomad!

By the way did you know Nomad are doing a sale on the 64Kb connection?? Its only at Rs 399 + vat now! With their limitations and conditions ofcourse. In case they are looking for a billboard advetisement, I am doing one for them. Yea we must tell the truth in advertisement. False adverts are not ethical. So here is one sample for you Nomad!!

Now let me talk about the speed test done today! It was so damn funny! I use a 64Kb modem and the normal value at around 14:00 should be about 50Kbit/s. And guess… no no need to guess… you know it! It was at 14Kbit/s!

Now the techki guy used his 512Kb modem to test! And the result were so much like Mr Bean using Nomad! The speed test gave ONLY 55Kbit/s with a 512 Modem! I wonder how all these months I was having a good connection! Oops… do you think that they went to repair a faulty antenna and repaired a good one instead?? wlol!

REPORTING

Decision taken: Use the modem for two month till i get an MT ADSL and fuck the rabbit modem to their ass!!

Advice to all Mauritian: AVOID NOMAD! Nomad Sucks and will teach you to suck too! Use Nomad only if you inspire to become a sucking porn character very soon!

Now completely switching to another topic. I just found this new cool feature of google while surfing and wanted to share.

Google search results now have a voting system!! That is you can now vote for the results you obtained. You can vote give a positive or negative vote.

You can even comment on the specific result. Write and share your opinion about any specific result.

Happy Googleing!!!

Nomad Rabbit Modem Playing The Whore

November 23, 2008 by Kurt Avish
Filed under Critics, Nomad, Web2.0 & PC

Blogging has become such a long time consuming task since some days as my nomad internet connection is so damn slow. A post which would normally take around 30 minutes to complete is taking more than 2 hours as I also have to look for appropriate images and other stuffs. Nomad or their ‘modem’ decided to ‘joke’ with me since Thursday 20 November so let me ‘joke’ with them today!

Thursday 20 Nov 08 – 19:00

While I was browsing my own blog I saw that the sidebars were not loading! I thought it was a problem with my blog. I cross checked with some friends but at their place it was loading well. So I said the problem is maybe with Nomad and it will be fine by Friday morning. I phoned Nomad and I was told to scan my PC for spywares! I did it and no spyware! I phoned them again and was told to now do a speed test 3 time at 30 minutes intervals!

I did it and the results were so F*cked up! The details about this day can be found here.

Friday 21 Nov 08 – 06:30

The connection is indeed much better than the previous night but after just 10 minutes…shit… The same problem of slow connection as of the previous day is back. I waited for nomad’s call during the day and they never called!!

Friday 21 Nov 08 – 19:45

I started to feel annoyed at the slow connection and started to yell at the Nomad dudes!!! Yea you got to yell at them and swear to wake them from their sleep!! After the hypertensionic event I got to talk to one of their technician who asked me to do so many stuffs but they connection remained so damn slow! I asked that a technician come to my place to check but since their techkies dont work during the weekend, so its only on Monday that they can send someone…. ofcourse they had to hear a curse from me when they said that!!

Saturday 22 Nov 08 – 17:00

I took my modem to the Nomad stand at Jumbo to test it there but found out that they are ‘inside of Jumbo’ so they can’t do speed test as they don’t have a good connection in there!! Yea!!

Next destination was Nomad Shoprite… The dude their test it and his report was that yea the modem work! Yea the fucking modem fuckign works!! I know it! So I explained about the connection problem and also let him know about my blog and the posts!!! Finally we concluded that…. no conclusion! He is not a qualified dude to know the defect! The connection was slow too at Shoprite! So I asked him to confirm that a techky is going to come at my place on Monday!!

More specifically on Monday at 14:30!! Lets see at what time he will come and what will he do to solve the problem! I will surely update you all here. Today I did another speed test and here are the jokers results that I wanna share with you. These are the results for today Sunday 23 Nov. The results for friday were worst!!! 9Kbit/s!!!

SPEED TESTS OF NOMAD!!

Speed Test 1 – The values clearly show it!! On a normal basis the value of the Kbit/s should be around 35 to 40 during peak hours! But mine is a BS 14Kbit/s!!! And look at the time taken.. over 300 s for 500Kb!!

Speed Test 2: – Speed test two clearly failed!!! The connection lost it!!

Speed Test 3: I just did this speed test just before posting this article…. so here is the value just at the time I am writing this.

Infact at the same time I asked a friend who also live at Vacoas to do the test at his place as he use Nomad 64 too. And as the MSN conversation show… he got a value of 55Kbits/s and the time was 74.164s at his place while at mine its only 14Kbit/s!!

And you know what more ridiculous?? The modem is showing such a good network availability with FIVE bars!!

So the only question which comes to my mind is WHAT THE FUCK!! Lets see what happen tomorrow when the techky guy will come!! It really sh*t to use the HTML version of gmail!! Its too boring….I can’t even access my Google Reader!!

Result of Mauritian Blog Survey and Award

November 21, 2008 by Kurt Avish
Filed under Blogging Tips, Web2.0 & PC

Post started at 17:00 to end at 23:00!!! What a rapid connection!!

Since yesterday I am having a damn problem with Nomad!! The connection speed is so damnlow that even Island Crisis is taking about 10 to 15 minutes to load at my place!! Yea! Finally today after my phone calls, my angry mom called them lol. And they started trying to solve the problem but unfortunately its still the same!! I am going to change the modem and cable tomorrow to see if the problem is with the modem.

So as you know I organised a small Mauritian blog survey and award last Tuesday 18. Today I am going to compute the result and publish them here.

Firstly I’ll thank all those who participated in the survey. I see that some bloggers participated in the survey but didnt participated in the voting section. There has also been some people who voted in the voting section but didnt participated in the survey. So let me compute the result now.

Lets start with the survey. Thanks to the following person for having participated and giving their valuable opinion:

S4ndeep | Daks | Tushal | Carrotmadman6 | Rishii | Shah | Web Design Bureau | Yashvin | Dhaneesha | Sailesh | Yusha | Ashish | Lovvy | Inf | Avinash Meetoo | Nayare

Question 1: What is your blogging frequency?

I have convert all the result into average post per month. That is if you entered 3 days per week, I have compute it as about 12 posts per month.

So the result clearly shows that most Mauritian Bloggers, that is those who participated in the survey and who are also among the most active Mauritian bloggers, most of you guys follow the trend of about 11 to 15 posts per month. That is about 3 to 4 posts per week.

Micro-blogging is also having a rise among mauritian bloggers. Only one participant (Priscus) scored the over 20 posts per month. However we can also conclude that microbloggers are in this category but I separate them in another category to show the data in more details.

Question 2: What is your prefered domain or subdomain type?

Dot net is among the most prefered by many of us but dot com still rule :-) – I personally think a dot come is really cool and look professional in whatever you do. The co.cc is another free alternative and can be acceptable for a blog. One thing I didnt expect… dot blogspot is prefered over dot wordpress. Thats nice.

Question 3: What is your blogging style?

Nothing much to say except that most of Mauritian bloggers tend to go with two different style that is its either Text with Minimum image and the other opposite type of Mix Style… consisting of videos images glitters etc.

I more for the Text with lots of images to illustrate the meaning of the post. I don’t use videos… but maybe soon :-)

Question 4: How do you promote your blog?

Facebook and MSN are still among the most used method of blog promotion in Mauritius. We are indeed very different from international bloggers in the way that none of us actually used adsense and other paid advertising to promote our blog. I think this is really a thing we should be proud of as we all get fans and loyal readers without paying for it and readers come and read because of what we write.

Question 5: Which is faster to load?

As expected Wordpress free and blogspot are among the ones that are among the fastest. However a short note… Even wordpress on paid hosting can be very fast. This depend on the hosting being used. It also depend on the template and plugins being used. Some plugins really slow down wordpress.

So thanks again those who participated! Now its time for the Mauritian Bloggers Award :D First I’ll give the number of votes and then give the little Awards lol.

Number of votes:
