Good news guys and girls! I just learned that google updated their pagerank yesterday! So time to check your’s too buddies. I was expecting the pagerank update to be by mid January 2009 however they did it yesterday itself.

Island Crisis jumped from a Not Available page rank value to a page rank of 1 after 28 days of existence. Thanks to all of you who link back to me. So go on and have a look at your new pagerank. Is this the shortest post I have ever written? lol. Be right back soon with amother hot post.

That’s 3 Questions I Want To Ask You About A Blog

December 30, 2008 by Kurt Avish
Filed under Blogging Tips, Web2.0 & PC

We all have so many questions in our mind. At time I think if the human mind is some sort of biological machine which is indeed trying to figure out how a second god can be created. What if one day some scientists create a God clone in the labs? Ok but that ridiculous and not the questions that I want to ask you today.

While setting up this blog on wordpress and transferring to my new top level domain, some questions came to my mind and I want to share this with you and see what is your opinion.

WWW or no WWW

Is it important to have the www infront of your web url or not? That a question on which I thought a lot while migrating to this new domain. As you know it does not matter whether you add the www infront of islandcrisis.net to come here.

You can access a site by adding the www and also by not adding the www. From the whole list of articles I read on this topic, having a www infront of the domain name does not matter much. However its advisable to use only one type when it comes to search engine optimisation. Why?

Search engines consider www.name.com and name.com as two different listing. Therefore assume that 5 friends link back to you using www.yoursite.com and 5 other friends link back to you using yoursite.com only, then these will divide your chance to increase your pagerank as it will not be counted as 10 backlinks but more like 5 backlinks for each.

So the best is to use only one type and when you comment on other blogs, always use the same type of address. I decided to add the www infront of the islandcrisis.net as it seem more…uhh.. it look cooler lol and more professional. I always get the feeling that a site address missing the www is like a man not having a shirt to wear.

What do you think?

PNG or JPG?

jpg-png

While setting up expliknu.com some days ago I encounter a problem with the image type. I was using a template where the images of the template was in png format. When I tested it on my localhost all seemed fine. However when I had uploaded the theme to the server, I kept having a very annoying problem! The blog structure would load but its after some seconds…or minute that the whole images used in the blog theme would load completely. At time some part of the blog would show image not found.

Those on high speed connections will not experience this. However for those on slow connection as me (64 Kbps) will experience a very annoying situation. The solution to this is to use jpeg image or gif in your blog template. I prefer progressive jpg as all images of the site appear in blur at first then they become sharp as the full images load. So meanwhile the reader can have an idea of how the blog is and read while the images load.

News Site or Blogs?

Hah.. thats my hot question. What is your prefered source of daily news? A news website or a network of blogs? If you ask me to choose between a crappy news site like the not-so-famous one we all know about here and a list of blogs for Mauritian news… Of course I select the list of blogs.

News and content on blogs are always more original and more intesting to read. Well as for international news thats a different case. There are some information that we get only on news site such as BBC and NDTV. However let’s have an example of the recent Mumbai Terorrist attacks. Even many blogs covered that event very well that I found myself spending more time on Digg and Technorati looking for news.

What do you think?

Tamasa.mu Hacked to Create Tension Among Mauritian Bloggers!

December 29, 2008 by Kurt Avish
Filed under Critics, PC and Security, Web2.0 & PC

I woke up and switch on my lappy and was thinking of what to blog today. Hellbound frak I got a real topic which I think everyone will have to talk about today! Tamasa.mu has been hacked by some son of b*tches! And the reason why they did that is really a shame. So here are the details.

As soon as I woke up, I switched on the laptop and login to my dashboard to check if there are any comments to approve and I noticed one comment in spam folder in creole. Below is a screenshot of it with some rude words blurred.

spamcomment

The comment is from a certain ‘Kav’ which was posted at 3:36 in the morning from the IP address 193.200.150.23 – I heard of the site Tamasa.mu before but didnt know it was for our buddy Yashvin. The site is actually for a client but Yashvin worked on that. So I went on google and did a little search for this site name and found a post of 2007 from there. I contacted Yashvin to see what is the matter and we were discussing about it. He send me a copy of the email that the hacker send to many Mauritians last night. Here is an extract.

emailfake

Thats ridiculous! Someone did that and even use a fake email address that resemble mine to mass email all members of that site to promote the Petite Annonces service of a certain newspaper. Are they a possible culprit in this attack? Time and police inquiry will tell. This is a pure bullshit strategy to hack a website and try to create tension among bloggers! Maybe someone who feel insecure by the rise of blogging in the country!

We had an msn urgent meeting this morning lol to discuss that. Yashvin already got some ‘trace’ as the hacker made a little mistake somewhere and I will not talk about this as this issue will most probably be reported to the IT unit of the police.

Yashvin will blog on this thing today as he got all the detailed information about this attack. However all I just want to say is that some assholes evil plans will not be able to break the unity among Mauritian bloggers!

Out Of My House For A Rainy Sunday

December 28, 2008 by Kurt Avish

Sunday….Rainday. It was rainy for almost 3 long hours today and heavy rain i mean! So due to my ghostly instinct  I automatically found this bad weather like a blessing. Infact yesterday the temperature reached 35 degree celcius on my home thermometer!! Not hot for a devil you will say? But I am not a devil. I am just another type of creature which does not like light and the ugly sun!!

So as soon as the rain stopped I went out in the nature surrounding my house to have a look at the real beauty of nature.

Yea I realised that even those things that I normally don’t even look at are so beautiful. Endangered species of plants?? I am not sure if they are endangered but surely they are beautiful in their simplicity. So let me present to you some of the citizens of nature that I decided to admire today.

We start with “Brede Chouchou” lol. No its not about “radio chouchou” here and surely I don’t place a huge “chouchou” on billboards to advertise lol. Here its about the beauty of a leaf of the famous Mauritian “brede chouchou” that we like to eat. Just look at the freshness of this little…uhh… big leaf.

brede-chouchou

I walked some meter and reached by rock garden! So I was admiring the little green spices that I planted…. More precisely my mom planted lol as I am too lazy to plant. So here is a sample of the thym and “mentol leaves”… coumsa mem dir sa???

du thyn

menthol-leaves

Some distance away….As I walk and try to look for a frog… Yes I was looking for a frog so that I could take a snapshot. However both frog which I found ran away as I approached with the camera. So damn sad. They would have been stars frogs if they had not run away.

So I approach my chilly tree and decided to make her the hot babe of this movie lol. So here is my chilly tree and some inch away is my Strawberry tree.

I now present to you all the real citizens of my garden. They are the sailing ships of the little green planet out there. Here is one special sailing ship navigating toward toward the external base lol.

snails

Hey…its already night… I need to sleep now. 22:30 already… yea some of you will say its too early… but damn! Its late for me as I need to sleep. So happy Sunday ending and keep in touch for a wonderful blogging upcoming week.

Saving memory….  Dumping excess data….  Hibernating myself…. Entering Dream World….  Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Nothing! Just read it! Microsoft recently announced that onwards Microsoft Windows XP creole version will be available. So I got a very secret document which was on the computer of a mad developer. Here is a copy of what he received from another dangerous software developer!

A real translation of XP in creole words!

Download the image to view it. Thats all for today as today is Sunday and luckily their is no sun today so I am going for a nap.

Thanks for WDB for this little joke lol.

Blog of the Year 2008 Awards

That the A day! Welcome to the Island Crisis Mauritius Blog of the Year Award 2008. Welcome…? Ok let the word…it’s just a word. I think Blogcome would have been the right word.

mainintroaward

What a hot and also agitating competition we had! Real obsession to be the winner but however its really good this competitive reaction. Competition is really good. The competition was supposed to end on the 29th of December. I made a change in the ending due to the high level of cheating that were occurring in the votes! I contacted some of the bloggers and they all agreed for it to end on 26th December when I proposed that idea.

Yesterday while changing the automatic closing date, I guess i selected 25 instead of 26 and as a result the poll was closed last night… Yea technical errors happend! Even on big competitions it happens. Just to illustrate it, even in the competition of Daily Blog Tips which I participated, the feed system was down for one whole day due to very small mistakes. By the I forgot to announce the result at DBT competition as I was so held up with the migration process at the start if December.

Island Crisis ended with a rank of 28 on more than 125 international blog who participated in the Blogging Idol Competition. I thank everyone for their votes there. I think 28 is a very nice rank as there was lots of high SEO ranked blogs participating and the competition was just too good.

So I decided to allow the votes to be open today till noon but since some bloggers were against it so I had to ask some opinion and the majority said its ok if we continue till noon but so that there are no “manifest” from some, then its better to end it at 10:00 itself. So it ends….and now its time for the real award ceremony.

which-shines-more

Here are the details of the awards. The awards consists of awards that have been allocated based on public votes from the poll and aslo 12 other awards based on type of content, popularity of field, seo values and also on dedication to blogging. Why? The competition aim to be fair to all the bloggers and mostly encourage them to blog rather than making them rivals! The public voting poll surely shows the total amount of votes a blog got but however to determine who is the best blog does not depend only on friends votes. So awards will be given to different blogs based on what they really did this year and about many factors which I will talk about below.

Each award has a badge made specially for that respective blogger and you can put that on your blog sidebar as a proof of your winning here. The badges are at a size of over 300 px however you can resize it to 160 x 140 while posting it to your blog. The details on the logo will still be clearly visible. I have already tested them on my browser. Just download it and upload to your server and resize. For those who need help to set this up, just contact me and I will set it for you on your blogs. Lets start!!

Blog of the Year 2008 and Blog of the Year 2008 Runner-Up awards.

These two awards have been allocated based on the total number of votes that these blogs got on the voting poll. The top 3 based on voting poll votes are shown below:

www.yashvinblogs.com – 136 votes – 30%
www.dakshinee.net – 105 votes – 23%
priscus.wordpress.com – 103 votes – 22%

So the Blog of the Year Award goes to Yashvin Blogs for 30% of votes with a total of 136 votes in the voting poll form.

winner

And the Blog of the Year 2008 – Runner Up goes to www.dakshinee.net for 23% of votes with 105 total votes in the public voting poll.

Merry Christmas To You All

Each Christmas I remember
The ones of long ago;
I see our mantelpiece adorned
With stockings in a row.

Each Christmas finds me dreaming
Of days that used to be,
When we hid presents here and there,
For all the family.

Each Christmas I remember
The fragrance in the air,
Of roasting turkey and mince pies
And cookies everywhere.

Each Christmas finds me longing
For Christmases now past,
And I am back in childhood
As long as memories last.

I wish all readers of Island Crisis a Merry Christmas. Enjoy yourselves well and don’t abuse of the sexy bottle of vodka lol. If only Santa Clause really existed…. The world would have been so magical.
