Vote for the Mauritius Blog of the Year 2008!
Just 4 days before Christmas and only 10 days before the New Year festivals. Time goes by so quickly, isn’t it? In only one year, so many things can change… Where were you on this date last year? Do you still remember? I was outside and watching the Flic en Flac sea view some minutes ago. Its so far… yet the view is so beautiful. It’s so beautiful to try to see the details of the distance.
I was listening to the radio and heard the famous yearly selection of “Disque de L’annee” and I got an idea. Why don’t we do a small Mauritian Blog of the year award? Its the end of year and during this year 2008, there has been many new blogs here in the Mauritian blogsphere. So lets have some fun and do the Mauritian Blog of the Year 2008 competition. Here is the little concept. The award consist of 3 main awards.
- Mauritian Blog of the Year 2008
- Mauritian Blog of the Year 2008 Runner up.
- Mauritian Blog of the Year 2008 – Female category only
So I will put the voting poll below and the results will be announced on the 26th of December at 15:00. Below are the 24 nominates for the award. If you know any other Mauritian blogs have been active for the past 30 days and is not in the list, just tell me in the comment section and I will add them.
So what are the rules? Nothing except that you must vote only once and have to vote for 5 blogs. That is each person must vote for his 5 favourite blogs of Mauritius which he thinks must be the blog of the year 2008. A blogger can give one vote to his own blog but must vote 4 other blogs in the list. Voting is open to all readers (local and international…. even on alien planets lol).
The blog having the biggest amount of votes will be awarded the Mauritius Blog of the Year 2008 Award and he will be given a honor badge to put on his blog sidebar as a sign that he won the blog of the year 2008 award in Mauritius. Hey if only we could have got a sponsor for THIS one lol. No problem, we will do it just for fun. So time to vote buddies! The voting poll will be closed on the 26 of December at 9:00! @All readers: Someone has been using an autoclicker and been seting ip and cheated the poll last night! I am comparing the voting ips and the statistics from the statistic counter. I’ll publish the link to the proof in some minutes!
I am removing the votes which can be qualified as cheating votes. All other VALID votes will remain.

Just as I said to Avish over msn, I advised him to install the web application LimeSurvey which a php opensource one, allowing the use of tokens.
Anyone wanting to vote, will have to add a comment, so that Avish can send him/her a token by email. The use of tokens is completely anonymous, and is used to ensure that the person with this token votes only once.

Here is how the poll prevents people from voting again. The system uses cookies and also note your ip address. So you will not be able to vote even if you reset your ip address. But if someone really dont have anything worth to do and he reset his modem and even clear cookies…then he will be able to vote. There are some softwares who can do this automatically!
However no fear. I know how to deal with these too. I moderate the poll from time to time and all invalid votes will be deleted!! So the special person who wasted his time trying to mess around with this poll… just know that he is is really wasting his time!

Lol… this is not the general election and neither a competition to win a $100000 cash dude. This is a competition for fun among bloggers. I am in too as even I am a blogger and not an Electoral organising society! Even in the last competition i participated.

So yesterday was a very active voting days! An overall of 734 visits and the number of voters increased so much. For the time being Yashvin is leading the poll with 49% followed by his sister Dakshinee with 29%. At the third place is currently Priscus with 25% of the votes. Tushal and Carrotmadman6 completes the top 5.
Things can still change. Many other bloggers got lots of decent votes too.
So guys and girls….. put more effort in the campaigns lol

Its true, the number of bloggers have rised considerably since the last 2 years, time at which there were only about 10 bloggers max. Some of the bloggers have now retired unfortunately, but don’t worry, they are still wandering on the web and they remain my “veterans”, who made me discover this blogging passion…

STATISTICS FOR 24 DECEMBER
Little surprise awaiting…. I got emails complaining from some participants about possible fake votes here. SO guys and girls….I am at home today…holiday hehe… and so I am keeping 2 whole hours for the detailed verification of the votes of the top 10 participants!! I’ll be comparing the voting ips to that of the statistics of those who visited the blog during the last 12 hours.
Ips who are found to have voted but are not listed in the visitors stats will clearly indicate that its a vote done directly on the html page of the poll instead of the blog! And so it will be a cancelled vote! Votes from the top 10 candidates who are from weird time intervals…. I will check the approximate location of the ips! If there are more than 10 consecutive votes with interval of less than 3 minutes among them and the location are of the same approximate location then it will be counted as fake! I think 10 is a good value na?
So wait till i do the whole change mans!

@All: PLEASE READ THIS VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE!
The competition will be closed on 26 th december at 9:00! The results will be out on 26th december by 15:00.
Those who are doing their campaign for votes on facebook and hi5 are allowed to do so ONLY till tomorrow morning at 7:00! At 8:00 i will check all of the competitors facebook profiles and if there are still some campaigne message there, then please feel honored to delete these before 7:00 tomorrow morning. So those who are thinking to do some facebook campaigns for votes, then please do it now! As any participants caught doing some sort of social media promotion after the time limit tomorrow…will be awared a 25% of his votes cancelled very generously.
I got lots of complaints and mostly about how the blog Metalikacrw is among the top 5 above as it is a new blog. I contact the blogger and he is saying that he is using facebook campaigns and even emailing his friends to vote for him. Thats allowed however facebook campaign will not be allowed after tomorrow 7:00!
Btw bloggers…keep cool…this is just a fun competition! Not the general election again!
Btw bonus: The invalid votes will be removed in a few minutes too! I am still comparing the ips and stats from the two source.

TO ALL:
After verifying the votes and all statistics, 41 invalid votes were found for the blog metalikacrew. As a result I have to deduct these votes. There was some complaints this morning and I had to verify these stupid ip addresses for more than 3 hours for a competition that is supposedly for fun!! Ip address…..i am seeing 196…41 evrywhere lol.
I want to point out that I am not saying that the blogger/s themselves have cheated! So we are not accusing anyone…. on the first day of the vote, someone had cheated on the votes for the blog, of daks, aline and la pingoine… I had to delete all those invalid votes. Last night maybe that same person did it on the blog of joyshan! This time its 41 votes!
I also cheked the other top 10 participants….all seem fine with the other for the time being. By the way only about 48 hours remains before the competition ends…. and please note that all facebook campaigns must be cleared before tomorrow 7:00!! I will chek for click frauds again tonight!

Do I have to stop mentioning to vote me in my blog posts, or stop my feeds from displaying other things in order to continue to be part of this competition?
And, do I have to remove my msn message and keep my mouth shut during these days so as not encourage my friends and readers to come and vote me?

The answer is no. You can continue on your blog post and feed, but the rule is that 24 hour before the result is announced, stop facebook campaign. You get the two days and tonight to send the request for votes message.

You can use your msn as much as you want and also open your mouth as much as you want

Sure facebook is a wonderful marketing medium much better than msn and mass email. I didnt say anything about mailing friends, so anyone can continue that! Completely stupid… huge respect for your point if view but not mine differs and I hope you will respect it too as a blogger! However its a rule of the competition to be fair to all the others who do not have a facebook group or account on the last day to get residual votes. …even though i know most of you have.

Je suis tombée sur ce concours en surfant. Sur quoi se base t-on pour selectionner les nominés mis à part le fait qu’ils soient mauriciens et que leurs blogs soient actifs depuis au moins 30 jours? Peut-etre aurait-on du en plus vérifier que ces blogs aient aussi un vrai contenu.

@All: I just checked that. SOrry for that guys but I placed that stupid closing date to 25 instead of 26 while changing ystrday. As u know it should end on the 29 but for reasons u know i had to end the competition today. \\\\\so while changinf the close date i guess i put it for25 instead of 26. Its corrected now. I have disable the close date itself and put it to none…and i will close it manually at noon. Btw yashvin u cld have send me a msg on mobile dude…. i would have check that last nite itself….
Sorry …went to sleep early last night.

@I just contacted some of the participants on msn. And also contacted Sailesh who is sponsoring this FUN competition. Most participants agree for noon. I extend this delay so that those who complained they could not increase their votes have the time to do it. But since those same people whocomplained do not want the extended time for their own reasons, then the competition is closing at ten oclok…that is in 6 minutes from now!
I gave the responsibility to close the competition to the sponsor. The sponsor sailesh agreed at ten. SO it ends at ten… less than 6 minutes remains….

One thing I want to say… concerning daks saying that her friend who wanted to vote for her last night could not… but note that even the others suffered from this problem and as such it has been of advantage to NO ONE. I wanted to extend it to noon so that those who think they can get some more votes can keep on…
I asked the opinion of some of the bloggers (excluding Daks and Yashvin). Why excluding yashvin and daks? Daks already commented:

So I needed the opinion of some others… i contact carrot… li tip enkor p brosse le dent i guess lol
– I contacted Joyshan was FOR the ending at noon. Chaya and sailesh didnt had a problem for noon too but to be professional and as I didnt placed any notice that I can modify the rules and its not a real merit competition, then better end it a 10 itself.
Lovvy too voted for end at ten. I asked two other friends about their opinion and said… that if some people are so against that the rules chnges then it should have ended on the 29 non? lol. However to be professional they advise me to end it at 10hr itself.
I also gave Sailesh the final decision as he is a sponsor for this event. Majority said end at 10hr…so it ends at 10hr.
The results will be published at around 15hr.

FOR THIS COMPETITION I HAVE GIVEN LOTS OF INPUTS.I ASKED AVISH FOR EXTENSION AS AS PER MY STRATEGY PEOPLE WOULD HAVE VOTED TODAY AND MY FRIENDS INFORMED ME THAT THEY WERE VOTING. SO THIS IS NOT FAIR COMPETITION.I HAVE REALLY WORKED HARD FOR THIS TILL THE EXTENT OF SACRIFICING MY SLEEP TIME AND MY FAMILY.SO DO YOU THINK THIS IS FAIR. @Daks: yes i had announced that decision as some of you were saying they could have missed the votes last night. So i decided to extend the time so that if some of those who could have voted last night can vote now. Then you answered that if the poll continue till noon, you and two other blogger will withdraw. You already gave your opinions…so i contacted the others. Some say continue till noon and some say continue till 10. I had to listen to the majority to be professional.
I know that ending at 10 have been a disadvantage to some who expected votes till noon. I started this competition for fun….not for fight. And I didnt made any disclaimer or specific hard rules. Anyway to not create tension between competitors, I have prefered to end it now itself.
@JOyshan: You are not a loser. No one is a loser here. The votes are counted only to announce the two award i names for votes. There will be category awards beacuse each blogger is different and is good in his own way and type of content he/she write! As for number of votes winner, you will surely have yr chance next time.

Hey people, wasn’t this supposed to be just a fun competition? How come your self esteem got into the way? Well, one thing I learned when moderating the Kamel Chenaouy forum, the Internet is a microcosm of the real world, especially on “social media”. So we get people who are in the right mindset to see things like they are and others who just think of things from their point of view and nothing else. This said, we can see the different mindsets of a Mauritian microcosm when looking at these comments and who are the people playing each specific role. Great show guys!

hi i expected that joyshan would be winning today as he was evidently working hard for that. though it was for fun but this was his only focus for the last days.Yesterday he told me his strategies of getting votes which i know would have really worked and got him about 150 votes.he is a brain and its good that you closed the voting poll well before as you all would have been shocked
