Slipknot! One of my favourite band!

You ever heard of this band Slipknot? I guess most of you have. Slipknot is an American heavy metal band with their own unique style of music. Some people can say that their music tends to make people crazy. Well it just depends on your taste of music. Here is Slipknot!
The small story
I first heard about Slipknot about many years ago when I was in form 3. At that time Slipknot was not really famous in Mauritius and I first saw that word when two of my cousin from UK was wearing a slipknot marked pair of jeans. At first it was like “what the hell is that”. Then I found out that it was a metal band.
At the first hearing of a sample of Slipknot I felt like “What’s that noise man!” – Then when I returned home I listened to the music and appreciate it. Its something you have to listen in a non noisy environment and appreciate the tone and music itself. I became a fan of Slipknot.
Their little story
Slipknot is a heavy metal band formed in 1995 in Iowa, USA. The band consist of 9 members and the thing that makes them unique is that each member has his unique mask and style. Yea Slipknot is famous for their wonderful and yet scary-to-some masks.

The subliminal verses is still one of my favourite. My buddy Tushal is expected to bring the album All Hope Is Gone for me tomorrow. The track which I liked the most was Vermillion. It will be after a long time that I will be listening to one of my all time favourite.
Facts about Slipknots
- Each member of the band has a unique number from zero to eight.
- All their masks were made originally themselves (for the most part), with the help of a man that has the AIM screen name KingVigo.
- The dreads on Corey’s mask is partly made out of his own hair.
- Not all the members currently in the band were in the band when Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. was released. In fact, the only people that were in the band back then that are still in it today are Joey (#1), Shawn (#6), and Paul (#2). The number is the brackets indicates their specific slipknot number.
In Mauritius there is some misunderstanding about Slipknot. Many parents do not like when their kids listen to their music or watch their video clips. Well, on one side the parents can be right about it as they would not like their kids to dress up like Slipknots members and walk around or even repeat the actions they they see on TV.
Well my opinion on this one is that we can listen to their music or even watch their clips. However we must know and accept it that these guys are doing a show. Its a show like in a movie. It is not that when someone see them breaking a chair in their show, then the person should also keep breaking chairs everyday.
Some people say that their music is so full of noise pollution and that we should listen to these. I think this one depend on taste of music which is different for everyone. It does not necessarily mean that if one person does not like loud music then everyone must have the same taste and vice versa. By the way did I mentioned about the members of the band? Here they are… the mask ofcourse.
So any of you ever listened to Slipknot? What do you think of their music? Are there mask scary? lol. What is your opinion on this band and hard metal rock type of music?

Not really a Slipknot fan here but one of my best friends is totally obsessed with this, he knows the biographies of all the members and the walls of his room are adorned with Slipknot posters! lol, he even broke his acoustic guitar while trying to play a slipknot track!
I’m not really into the Black/Death Metal genre, I prefer classic bands such as Metallica, GN’R and AC/DC.
My fav Metal Band at the moment is UK-Based DragonForce, their riffs are crazy and their guitar solos are amazing!!!

GNR are the legend… tro cool sa. DragonForce… not heard of… gonna have a look at this. Thanks for sharing. Else I also like music of Nickelback, 3 doors down, nightwish…even manson old albums were not bad. However the important point is to listen and appreciate the art in these music… and not imitate what these guys do as they only do it for a show.

Roadrunner records has a lot of fantastic groups. Slipknot is simply amazing. All Hope is Gone is listed in my top ten 2008 albums. I also have the Roadrunner United special CD/DVD with Joey Jordinson leading a team of Roadrunner artists. Also love the “Psychosocial” clip!

Yeah I really don’t like people who imitate bands just because they think it’s cool and for show. Some SOB with black clothes all over him “ti p declar mari” and said he was the greatest Metallica fan ever, and when I asked him the name of 10 songs he was only able to tell me 4 or 5, that’s the problem with this type of people, if you’re really a fan of a band, know their music, lyrics and style, there’s no need to imitate them!!
For example, concerning Linkin Park, my fav all-time band, I can tell you all the names of the albums, their years of release, the singles, the full name of the band members and their biographies
but I never imitate them, I prefer to have my own style, be unique!!
BTW Did you listen to the new Nickelback album; Dark Horse?? I think it’s their best album yet, totally kicks a$$!!!

@sjdvda: Thats the spirit buddy. Even i dont like people who imitate a lot. A real fan does not necessarily imitate the idol. A fan is a unique person and must have his own style. Linkin Park is good too. Some tracks such as crawling, in the end, runaway, and somewhere i belong, numb, and also the last album i have of them minutes to midnight is too damn cool

I have not been having a look at the new albums lately. Now am reconstructing my music collection… I have those old cds too which I have to recopy to my pc n do backups. Gonna look for the Drak Horse. I really like nickelback style btw. Simple but yet have the hard rocking touch. wow… am gonna buy an new earphone tomorrow lol. My mp3 player is here but the earphone got drown in the washng machine lol.

Lol Earphones, that’s another story!! I think I have a curse with earphones, mine always have to get some kind of problem. Last year only I bought 14 earphones, and they were good quality ones(Sony, Philips,etc..) and all of them are either broken, lost or have only 1 side working. My mom even asked me if I eat earphones when I’m hungry

I had huge issues with earphones. I think that I, at last, found my best aim with the Shure SE110. It is a real investment and it does cost quite some money but you just CAN’T beat the quality. I put my iRiver T60 on 11/45 volume with those and I experienced my music as if I was on 45/45 on my former Koss Porta Pro. The Shure SE110 is really excellent in terms of sound quality, outside noise blocking and “eargonomics”! I think I found that out on reading last year’s gizmodo tests.

All I can say about the 9 is that they no we the fucking fans helped them get the fuck where they are today.I drove from Syracuse N Y to Camden NJ last Saturday to see the best Metal band going.I drove 5hrs there and back for an 1hr and 50 min of pure mayhem.I woulda drove 20 hrs thats what a maggot dose.I’ve driven all over the East to see their amazing shows.I saw Slipknot the 1st time in 99 on the 2nd stage at ozzfest at Starlake amp in Pittsburgh since that day in June of 99 that I was pulled in.I’ve seen them on every tour for every album.So as long as they keep kicking the fuck outta every place they play and put on the best show going. I will be somewhere they’re playing at I promise that’s how good they are.After seeing then a good amount of times prolly more then 10.I gotta a drum stick from CLOWN and I threw my hat on stage he picked it up gave me the finger and wore it.Thanks SLIPKNOT 4 life

Slipknot is really fine music. Back in the days, slipknot and sepultura used to be my favourite musics i used to play on tapes while coding. [lmao had no cd drive then].
My favourite slipknot album personally is iowa. one of the BEST.
As for other groups that i listen, there’s marylin manson which i still do listen [even if the guy is screwed up] he’s got a nice voice.
Then there is DevilDriver, dez just got a golden voice. Simillar is Nile. and then there\s rammstein/Then the rest are just other music i listen here and there [can't get in touch with newer sounds nowadays.. used to in college days, have to search for what i know only nowadays].
Its sad that over time many old golden music degraded to shit. For example there’s Metallica which is one of the best fucking band on this earth, but their recent album death magnetic made me almost cry … because i realized the metallica i knew then and the metallica now isn’t the same stuff.

@Ric: I do really wish the slipknot band read your wish. But I think for a group to do a concert..there must be an organising event team to invite them and organise the event in your country. The band will not come like this. Wish they come soon.

Hola! Slipknot es uno de los mejores grupos que he escuchado,PERO TAMBIÉN me gustan grupos como Led zeppelin o Metallica. Hay que ser tlerante. Odio a la gente que se cierra en un solo tipo de música.
Y creo que DRAGONFORCE no se ha hecho famoso solo por el guitar hero, porque aquí en España ya eran conocidos mucho antes de eso.

Would be a mega event to have slipknot here in Mauritius. I am still thinking however why those organizing companies have not yet invited them…worst forget about slipknot….Mauritius have not yet even have a “REAL” rock concert… I mean popular rock band such as slipknot..manson…metallica…iron maiden or even linkin park…

Just try to understand bout Slipknot….
They are great man… they had 9 members n if u’re listen too they are playin’ so hard n harmonize the beat… if u imagine in studio with 9 people will be like shit… within every body had a best talent (if u one of them) they must wait till they got to kick ass their tools…. to do the same beat…. at once….. same harmonize n’….same souls…
can u do that… i don’t think so…. well may be only a little one of us can do that…
for those I am really appreciate it they had done in music even though… they must cover with their mask …

I don’t care what anyone else thinks of them, they totally fucking rock!!
The people who say that they’re just noise need to realise that there are different types of music to everyones different tastes, I don’t see them as noise but im not going to judge the people that think they are. You just need to listen to them and appreciate the lyrics and what they mean, for example when i first heard one of their songs ‘Suff’ i had no idea it was them, it was soo heart touching and the lyrics were beautifully written, it’s not a heavy metal song at all, so it just proves that the band have different sounds, and they are amazing with whatever sound they decide to use.
I just LOVE them tbh, and i think more people should start listenning to this genre of music!!

I love Slipknot! And with a passion too,along with all the hip-hop and gangsta rap I’ve been listening to all my life. The main reason why Slipknot rules in my opinion is because of the numbers. The only thing that I wish is that they had ten members instead of nine. Now,if only someone could fill in the maggot mask….

One thing I have noticed is a majority of SK fans are scene kids or started out as such. The same was for me that’s why I can say that lol. Don’t get me wrong I like SK a lot. Especially their new album since they finally got away from the annoying bitchy lyrics. The music in their old albums was catchy but the lyrics were just gawd-awful. They’ve grown more technical and melodic now which most would condemn and ridicule but I think it shows how much the band has grown. Soooo I guess I’m essentially saying Old SK Albums=Trend Music, New SK=Some Maturity Musically

Being a Slipknot, I must say I agree on this one. Its true, then it comes to the lyrics, their previous one was a bit like those written by some teens out of frustration and lack of maturity. The ones in All Hope Is Gone on the other hand is pleasant to read.
