So buddies, lets have a little cyclonic discussion today lol. As you all must know, cyclone in Mauritius is a topic of different opinion. Some people like it and some people do not like it. For some it is a danger and they are afraid of cyclones. For some others it is a HOLIDAYS package. Many students love cyclones are there will be no school. Even people who work like it as as from Class 3 warning there will be no work.

On my side I like cyclone not because of holidays but mostly because of the weather. Well, the sun fades out, there is a cold wind and the sweet rain lol. No heat equal good weather for me. However if the cyclone becomes a strong one and is targeting the Island directly then I don’t like it. There are many people and ANIMALS too who suffers in such weathers.

I still remember cyclone Gervaise in 1975 and it was my first experience of a cyclone. I was working at Bigara near Curepipe when the cyclone came and the most thing I remember (besides the wind and rain) was the eye of the storm when it passed over, the sudden drop in wind speed the eerie silence, misty and no sounds of birds or animals, then the winds came back but from the opposite direction. We recorded winds in excess of 120 mph (190km) at Bigara

@Mike Pearce: Thanks for sharing the memories :-) I often hear about this Gervaise cyclone from my parent every time there is a cyclone. I guess it was really a trauma for many mauritians. For my generation I still remember cyclone Hollanda. Wow… That is what i call a monster lol. :D
