The Mauritian Summer Time Become A Total Flop!
Now lets get back to serious things. The Summer time in Mauritius is a total flop story! That’s not a BBC headline or whatever but a deduction that almost all of us here can make after about 4 months of fake summertime time in Mauritius!
The summer time in Mauritius was introduced on the 26th of October 2008 if you still remember and there was many protests against this decision of the government. The summer time was introduced with the expectation to save energy!
Yea we can see how much is being saved and how much is being illuminated! Well note that the idea was proposed by EXPERTS! Haha yea…experts in illuminating the house for Christmas maybe!
So the main question today after 4 months of bluffing time is did we save energy?! I will say NO! Do one thing… get your electricity bill for last month and compare it to the one in october… so? Did you save energy? Or did you waste energy and money?
On my side, my electricity bill has increase instead of decreasing for a summertime! Hellbound decision of the EXPERTS of the government OR the government! Now let me explain the mechanism behind this.
Summer time in Mauritius was introduced and the actual real time was moved by one hour forward. So today if your made in china clock is showing 8:00 it is actually 7:00! Now the experts thought that (yea they thought) if summertime is introduced then, there will be daylight till 20:00 and people will use less electricity. Note that the mentioned 20:00 is actually 19:00 in real time. But what happened?
If people had the habit to sleep at 22:00, did they went to sleep at 22hr summertime? No! Infact most of us them went to sleep at 23:00 and often later than that! Another thing, they said that till 20:00 there will be daylight. Well my computer, my microwave, my tv, my radio ect do not use solar energy! Maybe they experts thought we have solar energy here! Thanks god my shower water is by solar energy else I wonder what would have happened in the heat when I have to take 4 shower per day! Pheew… the EXPERT got wrong with their calculation this time again!
So how did the electricity bill increased instead of decreasing? We wake up earlier in the morning as the hour is in advance. However we do not sleep one hour in advance at night! And we all know that it is in the evening that more electrical energy is used. So everyday our electrical consumption increase by 1 or 2 hours. Thats about 50+ more hours of energy usage per month! Moreover, the weather is too hot these days and people take about 4 shower per day instead of 1 or 2. So those using electrical water shower get some more spices in their bill. As a result we have been using more energy during the summer time! So?
The experts have any reply now? I guess most of you have had this electricity bill increase na? How much did it increase for you and since the summer time is here, did you actually use less electricity? Another important question is that do you go to sleep earlier or much later at night now? What do you have to say to the government for the summertime? Share your thoughts here.

At least Mauritians have benefitted in one way, i.e, now it has once again confirmed that government (no matter which of the two party, in fact they are 2 sides of the same coin!) does not care about you.
Do you think the gov does not know beforehand that this would be a flop. I certainly believe they do. But Why they let it happen? They must be benefitting from this in one way or another. Experts have 2 scratch the surface and see what the real purpose Mauritian Summer time has served?

actually we shud change the topic to opposition supporters Vs government supporters. we are just fighting for our personal political party here and summertime is only a comouflage to openly criticise the govt!!! atleast have the courage to be more open andstop being underhand…u people do not like summer time because you do not like the government.. as simple as this.
if some of you have been sincerely affected by summer time then please suggest what improvements the govt can make to the concept if ever they are thinking of reimplementing it. if mauritians stop being bias in their thoughts and argue concrete things then anybody has to listen be it the media or govt!!!

hi good morning friends . in summer time it was really bad morning , specially for kids going to school zot fatigue beaucoup. navin so ban expert ,pan conseille li bien ban expert kuyon sa. A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO SAVE ENERGY IN SUMMER. WE DONT NEED TO WAKE AT 4 AM, TIME REMAIN UNCHANGE BUT WORK START AT 8AM AND FINISH AT 3PM .
