Wordpress 2.8 Released – How To Upgrade?
Wordpress 2.8 is officially released buddies! Time to upgrade. So what’s in the new wordpress 2.8? Read on. I have place a small simple guide to to help you to upgrade in case you are still wondering.
To upgrade your wordpress installation I recommend you to do a database backup just in case the unwanted happens. At 99% of the time it will not happen but who knows you could be under the effect of Saturn lol.
Now to upgrade you will see a link in your wordpress dashboard asking you to upgrade to the latest version of wordpress. Right now we are all using wordpress 2.7.1 if you are keeping with the update. We are now moving a to faster and more friendly wordpress called wordpress 2.8
After clicking the upgrade link, you will be given two option. 1. To upgrade automatically and 2. to first download the wordpress installation and replace the files yourself on the server which is a harder work.
After clicking the Upgrade automatically button, do not at any cost close your browser! Let the installation be updated until you see ALL the 6 steps shown below being shown. At times you can see that the message “Wordpress Upgraded Succesfully is not yet shown. Wait until the whole process is complete.
You will now have the latest wordpress 2.8 installation. When you click on any link in your dashboard you will be redirected to the login page again where you will have to login again. Ok thats done then you can check the different new functionalities. For example the widget area is now easier to handle with drag and drops. You can manage all sidebars in only one page for example.
What is better in wordpress 2.8?
- Wordpress 2.8 is just faster than ever! I just upgraded and now my dashboard is faster. Even the page loading seems faster than ever. Wordpress 2.8 handle style and scripting differently.
- Better and easier theme management. You can now activate a theme without previewing it or even delete a theme on the theme page itself.
- Widget management area is much better. Manage all widgets and sidebars on only one page with drag and drops.
- But better of all is wordpress 2.8 new syntax highlighting! If you are like me who is always editing the source of the themes or plugins then this will drastically help! See below.
Hah! I just love the new wordpress. Island Crisis is already on 2.8. Now am going to update on Priscus. Read more about the new stuffs of wordpress 2.8 here. I hope this little guide was helpful.

Spotted a bug on your’s during the upgrade. Manage with it for now. I think there should be a solution to the prob within the next 48 hours.

That’s good. We can now upgrade. But have to see the right time because after twelve Nomad is very slow. Have to wait till tomorrow morning lol.

I tried it but could not see anything coming. Only a page with rates of payment etc. Are you sure it works?

You are on wordpress.com – The wordpress company has already upgrade your panel to the latest
The manual upgrade is for those on wordpress.org (ei private wordpress). Dont worry.. you’rs is already upgraded.

WP 2.8.1 is out now. But still…do a test with all your plugins before upgrading to avoid any unexpected outcome.
