91 Years For Nelson Mandela

July 19, 2009 / 2 Comments

Born on the 18 July 1918, Nelson Mandela the most respected political figure in African continent celebrated his 91 years yesterday. Famous for his anti-apartheid activities, African National Congress involvement to his imprisonment.

Nelson Mandela a man of honor and political power. What really marked me about Nelson Mandela life is that he was born as Mvezo but changed his name and identity just to get admission in school. Africans are known to have great attachment with the deep meaning of their name. This man had to change his identity to be known as christian with the only aim to get education.

The west has raped African Culture and master’s became slaves in their own home. Man like Nelson Mandela have worked and even gave their blood to get independence.

The 91 years of Nelson Mandela was celebrated in a grand way. Nelson Mandela has spent 67 years to fight for freedom and 27 years in prison. He deserved the Nobel Prize for peace again and again.

I wanted to share the speech of Nelson Mandela when he became President of South Africa for the first time. It is  really touching.

On that autumn day the 10 May 1994, Nelson Mandela came on the podium and read these lines:

“Today, all of us ,by our presence here… conger glory and hope to newborn liberty. Out of the experience of an extraordinary human disaster that lasted too long, must be born a society of which all humanity will be proud.

…We,who were outlaws not so long ago, have today been given the rare privilege to host to the nations of the world on our own soil…”
