Cardinal Jean Margéot was a powerful figure of Mauritian history too specially for his peace promotion campaign during the 1979 riots. A man no one will forget here and everywhere who knows him.
In 2005 Cardinal Jean Margéot suffered from a severe cerebral stroke that gradually deteriorated his health. Cardinal Jean Margéot was born on the 3rd of February 1916 at Quatre Bornes. He was the son of Joseph Margeot and Marie Harel.
Today, Mauritius did not lost a christian priest and nothing about religion divides! Today the country lost an exceptional son of the country and an unmatched man who contributed to promote peace and love everywhere. Cardinal for some… but Mauritians Pope.

Things he will be remembered for:
1 Opened the doors of catholic schools when SSR wanted to make education free.
2 Action for freedom of press: he bailed out journalists when they were arrested in 1976 (including the founders of Mauritius Times and L’Express)
3 Helped vent out the anger of Roche Bois during the 99 riots. God knows what might have happened if he did not do that.

I was not yet born for the ones above…but i heard many of his excellent work. For the 99 riot yea man… if it was not for his contribution…i think Navin himself would have lost his trousers lol… His best quality was he never looked at the skin colour or religion to help…. you can be a muslim or a hindu and even have the darkest skin colour…,but he treated everyone as human.
