JohnChow.com is back on Google Results

July 11, 2009 / 9 Comments

Just noticed that JohnChow.com is back on Google search results. As  you probably already know John Chow got his website banned from Google search results since 2007 as he was abusing link selling on his site which is against Google TOS.

google john chow

In fact you should know that doing paid reviews and sell unreasonable amount of links is not only against Google tos but also unethical from most search engines and RESPECTABLE bloggers eyes!

Back in December 2006 John Chow who is also known as the mogul of the blogging world started an aggressive campaign to sell links. He started making a fortune out of the business and got several penalties from Google on the search results. Some time later his whole domain name was completely banned from Google!

Many people said that it was a right decision from Google. Today a recent tweet from him made me to go for a simple quick google search and heck he was there again! Seems that Google has forgiven Mr Chow for his links bazar scheme he did!

Maybe you are thinking why Google and search engines do not like when someone do too much of paid reviews? Infact when a blog do a paid review, he put links back to the advertiser and most of the time if the advertiser is paying he will want dofollow links!

john chow

Dofollow mean that Google will count this link as an additional backlinks for the advertiser’s website and hence increase his value. Now the bad part of it is that if this is allowed then web search results will become a sort of the wealthiest get more importance and the poor never make it. That is if someone has money and buy lots of links he get value and those with normal budgets and who are really working harder miss it all.

To eliminate this situation, Google penalizes websites that do these paid reviews too much. By the way one advice I give you is to never do paid reviews unless you properly disclose that you are doing it for money and also use nofollow links to do it. (If you are thinking of using Text Links Ads then keep the idea off! as even link buyers are getting penalized these days!)

The web should be a place where competence matter most rather than some dumb wealthy kid who just buy everything even if he is the greatest s**ker.

Coming back to John Chow, he has always said he didn’t care a damn whether Google banned him! And I’ll tell you why he said that. Its simply because he is very proud of his 80000+ rss subscribers! So he does not care whether Google promote him or not…but what he forgot was that Google and other search engines were the one to make him popular when he was still a new startup.

evil john chow

The very sad part is when I see new bloggers getting motivated by John Chow! Its the worst thing and idol you can have as if you follow all of John Chow methods, you will for sure make him a better and more popular blogger but at the same time make yourself a stupid another blogger!

So now that Google has put John Chow back on the results, a question arises. Will he start again with his nonsense of ultimate links selling? We’ll see. By the way any fan of John Chow here? I do not really understand how people still read the craps he writes. At the start he was a good blogger but now all that he blogs about is what he is eating, with who he is eating, how his toilet is, which plane he is traveling in…..ohh I assume that’s why he says…he makes money online by telling you how he makes money online… and what you don’t know is that he is only telling you about the final dish and not how to cook it!

Making money in the toilet I guess lol.

I dont think that this guy is stupid enough to really share the way he makes money. But in anyway we cannot blame him for his whatever methods because he is just working to make money/. Thats it. I think even though google ban him .. i dont think he was at home jobless doing nothing.

If people or fans wanna follow John Chow its not fault and if people wanna believe in him … its not his fault.

It is said all is fair in war and love.

John Chow will say all is fair in making money online.

@Adam Woozeer, Yes when someone share its cool but honestly just taking a look at John Chow recent last 200 post I see most stupid and nothing related to teach you how to REALLy earn online. Sure there are some occasional ones but they are mostly guest posts ones.

In the niche of MMO, I think Problogger is a real hero. He teach without being too selfish for himself.

@vasco, I think making money online is totally legit but the way it is done which differs and can be unethical.

In John chow case he made a really abusive link selling campaign which got his site penalised and I think Google was right for it.

But now putting all site that earn online in the same basket is unreasonable as most of the times making some money online is use to cater for the expense of running a site. However it must be done using atleast respectable means,…and not just make a site just to make money.
