The countdown for the Total Solar Eclipse of July 22 2009 has started. Eclipse has always amazed me and the world will be seeing a unique solar eclipse of magnitude 1.080 on Wednesday 22 July 2009. Sadly we are so unfortunate that we will not be seeing it in Mauritius. However we shall be getting some good shots of the eclipse from people out there.
As you must already know and even if you didn’t know about it, the solar eclipse of July 22 will be a unique one in terms of the length and as well as the intensity. I dunno if intensity is the good word here. I mean this eclipse will be the longest solar eclipse of the twenty-first century which will be for about 6 minutes and 39 seconds!

Unfortunately as I said we will not be seeing it. Ok check the animation above. It is a map showing you where the eclipse will be seen. The shadow large region is infact where people will see a partial solar eclipse and look at the dark point in it. Those countries who falls under its motion will infact experience a total solar eclipse. A good part of Afghanistan, India and China will be amazed by it.

I always saw eclipse as being a magical moment. Its really damn cool and magical to just feel darkness amids the day. The tempearture of the country goes down and its a unique moment. Its a moment where the shadow of the moon falls on you.

Of course there are many superstition associated with solar eclipse. I dont really believe in these since I know they are not truth but then I would love that these superstitions were true.
Those who will be experiencing this eclipse are really lucky as the next one of this type is scheduled for… for June 13, 2132!! I’m waiting for the day and of course I’ll be looking for some of the good shots that astronomers from the regions will be posting to share.
Ps: Just for the info there was a penumbral lunar eclipse today 7th July 2009 but it was not visible in Mauritius.

TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN
SUPERSTTITION ASSOCIATED WITH IT IN INDIA AND IN MAURITIUS
DONT LOOK AT THE ECLIPSE

I dont think these superstitions hold true. For example 99% of astrologers said there will be a huge devastating tsunami on that recent eclipse day where many people will die. I didnt even saw a wave of 5 meter lol.
These events are rare and there is nothing wrong if people look at it using the APPROPRIATE methods. That is taking security measures to not affect the eyes with glasses made specially to view eclipse.

The total solar eclipse 2009 would be the most perfect total solar eclipse in twenty-first century according to some people.
