Nepenthes Rajah and Nepenthes Attenboroughii

August 18, 2009 / 4 Comments

Nepenthes Rajah now has a cousin and this new giant carnivorous plant is called Nepenthes Attenboroughii. This new carnivorous plant was just recently discovered by some scientists in Philippines. The giant beast was named after Sir David Attenborough.

Nepenthes Attenboroughii

This newly discovered carnivorous plant is able to eat a whole rat and any other flying animals near it. Of course should you feed it your hand it will make a must to make a good breakfast with it! This botanical beast is found only on the summit of a mountain in Central Philippines.

The plant was found about 2 years ago but was without a real name. However now it is named after Sir David Attenborough who is a famous TV naturalist and mostly due for his decades of work for the natural world.

Attenboroughii, carnivorous plants

This Nepenthes Attenboroughii is a close cousin of the Nepenthes Rajah shown below who is also a real monster of the botanical world. They are both of the pitcher plant family and has digestive enzymes in their large container-like shaped trap.

Nepenthes Rajah

Any big rat or animals that can fit are are usually attracted to it thinking it is food. As soon as the animal gets in, the plant starts killing it with it digestive enzymes after closing the trap. Digestive enzymes are the chemicals found in your mouth and stomach that desintegrate food to digest it.

So now imagine an animal trap in an ocean of digestive enzymes with no oxygen. Holy hell. This is hell! Anyway this shows that we are yet to know all of the plants and other living species of our planet. Just as right now Mother Earth is angry and sending its militia the h1n1 toward us humans!
