Woman Who Sees With A Tooth – Sharron Kay Thornton

2009/09/21 - By Kurt Avish - 2,151 views

Sharron Kay Thornton sees with her tooth! She had a really weird surgery where her tooth was used to replace her left eye and now Sharron Kay Thornton sees the world via her tooth!

Tooth For An Eye

This 60 year old woman has been blind for the last 9 years and recently the doctors did one of the strangest surgery called modified osteo-odonto keratoprosthesis on her. The surgery uses one of her tooth to replace her eye. It involves removing a tooth from the patient and drilling a hole in it. A plastic lens was then inserted into the tooth hole and then implanted into her eye. Weird na?

Yet this surgery has enable this woman who was blind for nearly 9 years to see now. Weird medical technologies.

Not the most beautiful thing to put on a face, but as long as it works!

I don’t understand why a tooth was needed though. Why not some kind of plastic that looks like a tooth?

    (I haven’t read about the osteo-donto thing)

@Inf, I think they needed something from the body of the patient itself so that their is no adaptation complications later.

If her vision is working fine and she is happy with it, we do not have the right to judge whether she is a beauty or not.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If she has got a loving husband and children, they will feel happy for her.

@Suneel, Exactly. Just as I replied above. If she is happy…then that’s the best.

Jesus I really need to stop getting sneak attacked by these crazy pictures, the technology is wild and I can’t even imagine how elated that woman is. On a side note I have an eye phobia and it freaks me out.
