Twitter Avatar and Background Lost

Twitter users woke up today morning (or night at some places of the world) to notice that their Twitter Logo and Background have disappeared and replaced by a new Twitter default bird logo and twitter background. What really happened?

I made a quick search and see that Ben Parr from Mashable has already placed some updates about this issue which is confusing almost every twitter users. In fact even I woke up today morning (Mauritius) and was confused that my Twitter avatar was changed. I at first thought about a Twitter account hack but then quickly put the idea aside as I was able to login.

Apparently the whole fuss is from a bug from Twitter itself. Alex Payne from Twitter has tweeted about the issue stating that:

“Many people in my timeline suddenly have default user icons. This is probably not intentional. I have inquired with colleagues.”

I should point out that NOT ALL Twitter users are affected by the bug as I checked the account of IC author Priscus just now and saw that her account is working fine with her own customised background and avatar.

And below are two Twitter updates about the issue:

We’re working on a bug whereby the default avatar is showing up for users who have previously uploaded their own image. We hope to resolve this soon.

Update (5:30p): We’ve identified the root cause of this problem and expect the issue to be resolved within the next several hours.

On my side I have already RE-uploaded my Twitter avatar but I’ll keep the default reseted background to see if Twitter will return back the customised background as soon as they fix this problem. Is you Twitter account affected too?

So long as Twitter keep releasing untested software like this, in this way, then they’re never going to make it a truly profitable service.

Why won’t they sell to Google! Do it damn you!

I didn’t notice it… Right now it seems to be back?

Regardless, Twitter of late has been pathetically slow to respond to client API requests. Manytimes it times out
