Earthquake Near Mauritius – Magnitude 6.0
There was an Earthquake near Mauritius Island today morning at around 07:45 and of course only a minority of Mauritians know it by now. The Mauritius Meteorological Station failed at its job to provide warning and in-time alerts.
I myself got the alert quite late during the day and I was not at home. Maybe those who had the radio on, did got the news. The earthquake occurred at about 1000 KM to the north of Mauritius Island. The earthquake had a magnitude of about 6.0!
Note that most of those devastating earthquakes have magnitudes between 6.5 to upward. The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 11 Kilometers. The effect was not felt in Mauritius due to the depth and distance but for sure there could have been a risk of minor tsunami near Mauritius.
The Mauritius Meteorological Station said nothing about this issue and yet again failed to inform the population. Gladly this event did not affect Mauritius and there was no damage.

Hope it was not a big tremor though it read 6. Sometimes even when the magnitude is high, depending on the epicenter nothing really bad may happen on certain surfaces.
Does it happen very often there just like Indonesia? Looks like many of the island nations in the India ocean are vurnerable to these frequent tremors and even tsunamis.

what the hell was they doing at meteo sleeping magnitude 6 is very high it occured at EAST NORTH EAST OF MAURITIUS ISLAND THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A TSUNAMI. BIZIN FOU DEHOR BAN INCOMPETENT THEY ARE PLAYING WITH LIFE OF PEOPLE

Well I believe that The Mauritius Meteorological Station never says the real truth to us. Its not the 1st time that the meteo didnt give us the true story. Anyway what do you think about our climate for this summer?? Are we going to have any big cyclone this year? The climate indeed have changed a lot. Any opinions about that??

the mauritius meteoroloical station really never give true information..i know they are not God to predict but they should carry their tasks correctly why are they so laaate……????????there could be a tsunami all a sudden and they are not informing the public to take precautions what about the fishermen lifes?????they did not even bother to announce that although we have not been affected by earthquake it could have been possible for mauritius such a small island to get a tsunami.
