The University of Mauritius (UOM) Student Union Election 2009 was held yesterday and today. This year the election atmosphere was spicy but indeed it lacked the excitement and taste compared to the two previous years. This is maybe because the election was more like a student election this year.

Last year Priscus and Me organized the Student Union Election Debate together with the support of some bloggers and friends namely, Tushal, Chaya, Rishi, Ravish, and the Political society of UOM. We also allowed spicy discussion and even some very hot debates on our blogs. The atmosphere had a more competitive touch and the shout slogans were heard all over the campus. Well that was last year!
For this year we decided to not get involved but we were observing everything and getting some really hot inside news from friends in both parties. Lexpress today came with an article mentioning how students of UOM are really bad choices to be elected as leaders. It is indeed a blatant truth!

Yesterday I heard leaders of both parties being interviewed on Radio Plus. Although I know “Suri” who is one of the candidate at the election, he was really ridiculous on the radio and didn’t even thought about the idiocracy he was representing while saying “if one day there is 100000 students at UOM”. (lol I wonder how and where will 100000 students fit in UOM!).
I know he was excited to be on the radio and trying to sound convincing but he indeed sound like an excited fool at some point in time. Anyway no grudge against the guy. Coming to the leader of United Student party, well he indeed was trying to convince everyone on the Radio and was like a parrot reciting his pamphlet live. Convincing? Yes he convinced me that he cannot even convince people and as such is far from being a politician.

The atmosphere at UOM for the Student Union election 2009 was quite boring too. As we already know, it is mostly the first year students who vote (naively) while the rest only watch the wh0ring procedure that occurs every year. Talking about wh0ring, well a guy was doing it today too and he unfortunately came to give me his little paper and telling me to vote. The worst of it, he told me it is a MUST! The poor chap who happened to be a first year student working as electoral agent didn’t know that I am at the University for almost 3 years now.
So he heard something that really made his day a p!ssing one! One good part of the whole buzz however is that the expense for this year’s election was less compare to last year. We didn’t saw banners worth over the Rs50000 and everyone used the minimum material possible. Tomorrow the winner will be announced and I can already predict it.

The Winner of UOM Election 2009 is United Students. Well I may be wrong but the same group has been winning the election since 2006 so…! To end this post, I met a guy yesterday. He used to be a very active electoral agent while he was still a student of UOM. Well the University kicked him out as he was a loser. I saw him selling “Kebab” at the University Canteen yesterday. Anyway I hope he was not always doing the campaign manager, he could have been working at some better place today.

What I don't understand is why is there such a loss of credibility in the UOM SU? Looks like the problem is political. Can't anyone just get out of the common line and just start working FOR the students than merely going political?
Wasn't there a magazine edited "collez style" also? What has it become? Have you had new issues?

Nice post. True this year election was not interesting no wonder why blogger didnt made any coverage for them. Voters and bloggers got tired to read and listed to same lie again and again. Manifesto have not changed since last 3 years and if we blogger decide to make review on the manifesto we will have duplicate content. This is to give an idea of how limited the manifesto are.
To note that UOM have around 8000 students if i am not mistaken and only 1000 students vote, people who votes turn out to be freshers.
