Airbus A380 In Mauritius – Largest Passenger Airliner

2009/11/12 - By Kurt Avish - 2,117 views

Airbus A380 demo airplane is going to cross Mauritius sky and land at the SSR International Airport at around 10:00 today. The Airbus A380 is the largest passenger airliner in the world with a maximum passenger capacity of up to 850.

Update: The A380 is in Mauritius. The plane was spotted at exactly 09:42 here in Vacoas heading toward SSR airport. An exclusive set of photos of the Airbus A380 in Mauritius has been posted at the end of this article. Enjoy!

The Airbus A380 landed at Reunion Island yesterday and aero-fans were amazed at seeing this beautiful giant of the sky. The airplane is expected in Mauritius today as Air Mauritius is a long time client of Airbus. This demonstration tour of Airbus started on the 15th of October with an inaugural stop in Russia. The plane then made a stopover in South Korea to participate in the Seoul International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition 2009.

Mauritius is part of the second demonstration tour of the A380. The plane landed at Reunion Island yesterday and is expected in Mauritius today. Leaving Mauritius, the A380 will head to Dubai for the Dubai Air Show which ends on the 19 of November.

So be sure to look up the sky today morning between 9:30 to 10:00 to see this giant of the sky heading toward the SSR airport. If you can move to the airport, that is better and do not forget to send us some photo of the plane in Mauritius.

Small precision for the landing time: I tried to search the website of AirMauritius.com and as amateur as it is, it does not have any updated information about this event! (Air Mauritius it is time to sack your dumb website maintainance group!)

Radio Plus on his side announced that the airplane will land at 10:30 and finally they never talked about it again to confirm the news. Well their main dish is often who is raping who and so on so maybe this news is not really important for THEM! (Update: Finally they confirmed the time as 10:30 in their 9:00 news) – As for Lexpress their only article about this plane I found was a teaser extract of an article clicanoo.com! (Time to evolve guys!!)

I know the landing time is between 10:00 to 10:30 so better watch out as from 9:30 itself. You shall notice it as the plane will fly at a really LOW altitude for this demonstration. Those who have photos don’t hesitate to share with us at kurt@islandcrisis.net

Happy to see the beast down in Mauritius. Did you know that a Mauritian lead the team that worked on the wings of this plane? The team is in Bristol and the wingbox is taken from the team’s first plane, a military one, the A400M. It weight, with all the military gear it can carry, is more than that of the A380. This is why they made a technology transfer on it.

The Airbus was at the SSR Airport at around 9.45 hrs. It passed over the Airport and went for a tour through the Island. It re-appear at 10.10 for a first attempt landing. But it did not land and make another attempt and it was really amazing when it landed. There were about 1500 to 2000 people round the Airport premises.

Its a good feeling to actually see the Airbus A380 landing in Mauritius after having watched it being put together and tested back in Toulouse! I did a work experience with the Airbus Company and that was the best thing i ever saw! So being from a Mauritian background and from seeing everything that happened in Toulouse, i thank all engineers, test pilots and all members of the Airbus Company that has helped to put such a beautiful aircraft together – this is the future of aviation! Afterall, how else can you take a shower and have a spa at 43,000 ft and have a private suite for yourself other than having the Airbus A380!!
I feel so proud to have seen this aircraft landing in Mauritius today while i’m on holiday here – this has just made my time on holiday being worthwhile!

    Thank you!

    Good pictures thanks.

I don’t quite see the relevance of the animosity towards Air Mauritius in the article and follow up comments. Air Mauritius is a carrier – not a broadcaster. I do not see why its corporate website should have been providing up to date information on this visit.

If you really need to have a go at someone, then blame the MBC or Airports of Mauritius.
