Euro Millions Scams Reach Mauritius Letter Box!

2009/11/09 - By Kurt Avish - 247 views

Euro Millions lotto scams have reached Mauritius! So beware if you start receiving a professionally packed letter with a return envelop in a priority mail package in your home letterbox. Whether Euro Millions is a scam or not is a debatable question but for sure receiving a letter from them with your name and address without you ever asking for it smells like scam!

euro millions

Some days ago, a weird package landed in my letterbox. At first I thought it was one of those sponsors gift or complimentary CD that they usually send. To my surprise I found myself with a coupon claiming that I am winning over 100 million euros if I sent them the participation letter back.

return envelop

The letter even came with a return-back envelop with already paid mail. At the sight of this many Mauritian will feel some cells of confidence in the package. To further add to the whole set up, the letter even have those “Authorised Seal” making it appear more legit as show below.

verified seal euro million

The letter is a whole 3 part one consisting of the introductory part telling you what is Euro Million and so one. Here is an extract of its introductory part.

As the designated recipient of this notification document, you can now access Europe’s richest multi-national lotto through the EuroMillions Syndicate. This special Syndicate gives you eligibility to share in total prizes worth up to $620 Million.

Well my scanner is not functioning properly so I took the snaps with my mobile phone, but if you look at this letter, you will be totally overwhelmed by its professional look and even want to try it. But here is the tricky part! To participate you will have to enter you credit card number along with other details!

credit card scams

They say that they will take only $15 dollar from you credit card as participation fee. $15 is about Rs450! You also have the choice to pay them the $15 by cheque! Now let’s stop being the noob and think about it. To send this envelop here to Mauritius, it could have cost a maximum of $10 with all its return envelop stuff.

In return to participate you have to GIVE away your SECRET credit card number to them. And do you know what happen when someone has your credit card number along with the secret number at the back of it? Well they can remove all your money in a few seconds!

Now assume someone is wise enough or maybe foolish enough to even participate in the scam and send a cheque. He will send $15 which is more than their cost to send you this scam letter. Even then they have recovered their money. The fact is that I never gave them my name or address! So how come I receive such a letter in my letter box. The worst is that the address format used is in fact the abbreviated one I often use online!

So they got this address on the whois data of Island Crisis or maybe on other sites who might be illegally selling clients data and then send these mails! So Mauritians, if you come across this letter in your letter box, BEWARE! Do not just give your credit card number away. Remember that to participate in a lotto game you do not need to give your credit card number! The Mauritian lotto itself never ask you for it. Maybe the real Euro Millions organizers can clarify things now! (Mostly about how come people receives their letter without even registering or asking for it).

    In some scam letters you receive stamps :) In yours, I can’t find one but the one which contains stamps is great because at least you get something quite useful in return and if your hobby is to collect stamps it’s yet another marvelous thing ;)
