Google is set to do the first Google Chrome OS Beta demo today. The demo is expected in the coming hours at the HQ of Google. The highly speculated Google Chrome OS is to be displayed at a press gathering today. (Update: The answers to some of the questions has been added).

google chrome os beta launch

The press demonstration of today by Google will be the very first where we will all have the chance to see what Google Chrome OS really looks like but most importantly how does it really function. Since the last few months we had many assumptions and possible designs of Google Chrome OS. However all were assumptions and creative designs.

The media gathering at Google HQ today will be presided by Matthew Papakipos and Sundar Pichai from Google. For now many questions are still roaming in the mind of many.

What is Google Chrome OS look like?

Throw away those imaginative designs. Google Chrome OS will look less or more like the Google Chrome Browser itself. The design is however very intuitive and easy to use. Just like the Google browser.

Will it have applications that do not depend on the net?

Chrome OS is essentially a browser with a few modifications. All its applications will be internet based that is they will reside in the cloud. The OS will itself be of a specially customised version of the Chrome browser to be able to profit to the cloud computing vision of Google. In short the answer to the above based on the media gathering of yesterday is NO.

Will Google Chrome OS be a suitable OS for desktop pc?

Suitable? Well yes and no. It depends on the internet service available. Those in the USA or Europe for example will profit largely from it due to their very high internet connection speed. However if you consider a guy in South Africa to depend largely on Google Chrome OS, then it is a big NO.

Will a BETA version be available in some hours for download?

No Beta download for now and not before about 10 months! The project is still under development.

Will Google Chrome OS kill Microsoft Windows 7? (:-?)

For the cloudy geeks who live only on the cloud yes! For the real life guy who still play his DVD Call of Duty or even run various applications on his own PC, it is NO.

Will Google Chrome OS allow adding of existing softwares?

Google are working so that all or almost all of web based applications (such as online photo editors) can be used with the Google Chrome OS. However if you are thinking to install you Photoshop on it, then get back to Earth. It is not too wise to remain only on the cloud.

Adding to the above, another very important question is what if you need an app which is not available on the web? Google answered:

“We expect most of our users to have a second machine at home….Chrome OS is about a delightful experience on the Web….If you’re a lawyer spending your entire day on contracts, etc., this is not the machine for you.”

Google Chrome OS is your new TV!

Additionally, Google compared the future Chrome OS PC with a TV. “Turning on a PC should be like turning on your TV” said Google. The advantage of cloud computing will be that you will not depend on a specific station for your needs. All users will most likely be using a login to access their applications from anywhere. So imagine you went to the office and it has a Google Chrome OS, you will simply login and be able to comtinue the work you were doing at home.

Google Chrome OS Security

Security is very important for Google. The Google Chrome OS will be an auto healing one. That is assume a malware is detected in the system. No need for antivirus or whatever as it will be able to auto detect it and eliminated the malware by itself.

The system is also expected to do auto updates regularly without any human interaction.

So Google Chrome OS, we are waiting for you. A first beta download is expected in not less than 8 to 12 months. So let’s see how thing evolve.
