Mauritius HSC Accounts Exams 2009 – Cambridge Failed Again!

The HSC exams 2009 and Cambridge have finally made it to the hot news in Mauritius AGAIN! Cambridge has failed once again. This time it is about a major mistake in the HSC Accounts Paper 4 where students had to worry about a wrongly set up question and wasted their precious time in the exam. All due to the amateurism of Cambridge.

This is not the first time we hear about the amateurism of Cambridge when it comes to our exam papers. Last year we heard about how some papers were leaked on Facebook much before the exam day on the site BlackPapers. This eventually lead the Government of Mauritius to try to ban Facebook in Mauritius during exam period! (Read more here).

This year we are hearing about how a specific question in the Accounts paper was wrongly set up. The paper concerned is the paper 4 of Accounts and is one of the most important for the subject. Question 2 on the paper had a wrong answer and students had to work out the question to conclude at this wrong answer. This was logically impossible unless the student is the relative of Ustad Raja (the magician)!

The Mauritius Examination Syndicate has already contacted Cambridge and reported the issue. Now we need to wait for his excellency, Cambridge to reply with the clarifications. Meanwhile, we note a sudden increase in the “Stress Density vs HSC student count” (New Metric ratio made in Mauritius).

Wondering if is it not time we switch off the light of Cambridge for our HSC exams and look toward a more reliable examination body?!

UPDATE 16 November 09: Cambridge confirms that there was indeed an error in the Accounts Paper 4 and promised that no one will be penalised for this question. How come such a mistake was in an exam paper which is supposedly verified by competent officers…is a question!
