Also, if you feel that the mauritus meteo is a bunch of amateur, you better visit them (or any other weather bureau, for that matter), spend some time with them before you brand them as such. Forecasting the weather is not like storytelling a known event.

For your info, weather forecasting is now a global endeavour and forecasters do work in a big team to try to understand the weather. Information is gathered all around the world by both manned and automatic stations and analysed or fed into supercomputers, which is not available to every country in the world. There is no such thing as a 100% forecast and always, otherwise it is not called forecasting.

This is surprising to see this type of argument from you! We know the authorities like to consider the Mauritian population as being scientific fools, but this is no more the case. The USGS updated its website about the Rodrigues Earthquake within less than 10 minutes after it happened. The Google Index Time of its update about this Earthquake proves it to being around 08:40. Maybe you should have said that the Mauritius Meteorological Station is not able to inform its population at the right time and it was only after the news reached the Radio that someone from your department told Mauritius more about it.

And let me remind you that such an Earthquake at this specific distance and depth, if was a 7.0 mag, then we would have been sending rescue teams to Rodrigues by now. I understand that it is difficult to actually predict earthquake locations, however maybe the Mauritius Meteorological Station would be more respected if it would at least inform people at the right time and not with a whole one hour of lateness.
