Please have a check at the picture – from the Emtel WiMax antenna it goes into an internal unit, from which it goes into a wireless router – from the router u can pick up the wireless signals from your laptop in your room or wherever u r in the house. Now, if you have a pc instead, just get a usb wireless adapter to pick up the signals from your router – this is your wireless LAN (Local area Network) created via the router.

Now if you don’t have a wireless router, the ethernet cable (RJ 45) from the internal unit (from the picture), can go directly to your network card in ur laptop or pc. This time, your internal LAN is wired.

For your sister to access the same network, you’ll need the wireless router so that 2 computer systems (laptop/pc or pc/pc) can receive the signal via the router.

You need to be careful about cost because your LAN will have the following hardware – router and/or usb wireless adapter.

Hi, i will be coming to mauritius for 4 months as of next week, and i will need to use the internet mainly for watching videos and films, but also for general surfing. which internet service provider would you recommend, and which internet package is fast enough to enable me to all these things?

I just called them, talked to a nice and pleasant guy. He explained me more about the Wimax and overall I’m convinced. I just want the installation to be done asap.

Wimax is better. Its a more dedicated service and Emtel is not overselling it (atleast for now). 512myt is about rs900 but it comes with those annoying Fair Usage Policy where they can control your connection when they want or if you are downloading too much etc.

With Wimax there is no such limit. However its price is more expensive. A 512 Wimax is about rs1900/monthly… but if you prefer a better quality of service rather than just price concern, then go for wimax. If your budget is low, you can opt for the 256 wimax.

For 512 kbps with MyT what is the price? Rs 1000???
Im really confused, I want to chose once for all now, This or That?
It is for one Laptop for house use.
Help me out.

I can’t say if it is better but with emtel if you are paying for a 256, you will atleast get 200…and up – Unlike myt where many with the 512 itself are surfing at 100 to 200.

Myt is overselling.

You’re out of luck Evo uses wimax only for data. you need a cdma network for the phone to be able to make phone calls and one with evdo support for 3g level operation. EVO won’t work here. My sadness was palpable when I saw what the HTC supersonic was really =[

Mo p gagne crise ek ADSL business 1Mb, it seems i get only 300k instead of usual 600-700kbps. My MY-T at home 1Mb is downloading better at 600k.

I am considering shifting to Emtel Wi-Max. How is it ? Is performance still good ?

Anybody having good results ?
