Breaking: Eleven Iranian soldiers have captured an oil well in Iraq. The soldiers illegally crossed Iraq’s disputed border and have even placed their flag near the oil well. Iraq is yet to respond but discussions on social media during the last few minutes are already pointing toward a possible Iraq/Iran conflict.
Iraq government is seeking a peaceful discussion and have asked that Iran withdraw its soldiers from the disputed oilfield on the two countries’ border, but Tehran denied any incursion.
Update extract via Reuteurs:
A senior engineer from Maysan Oil Company, which operates the field, said Iranian troops had taken temporary control of one of the field’s seven wells, an inoperative well in a disputed border area, four or five times this year.
“Iranian forces come to this well periodically, and then at daybreak they withdraw. They are provoking us … I don’t know why this is a big deal this time,” he said, on condition of anonymity.

Umm…if the border is disputed, then why is their action “illegal”??
Kurt Avish
Disputed because Iran does not accept it but the world accepts it as part of Iraq.

@Kurt Avish, actually “the world” has not stated a position on the matter. And its not “the world’s” decision, it is between Iran and Iraq.
