Techcrunch was hacked today and was down for about 2 hours. The most famous technology blog and idol of the blogging world was somehow put down and replaced with a message diverting to a site called dupedb.com – Could that be the Iranian Cyber Army, China or funnily the Canadians?

At around 10:30 AM (Mu Local Time) today Techcrunch was hacked and a message as shown below was visible on the site’s homepage. We also noticed the link to a file sharing forum below. For the time being it is assumed that this link below was intentionally placed by the hacker to divert people’s attention. We do not think a hacker is so foolish to put his own site there.
At around 11:30 (Mu Local Time) Techcrunch was up again but was still sustaining some trouble and went down again for about one more hour after it became stable. At first we thought it was a security hole within wordpress but the doubt are now more upon RackSpace who hosts Techcruch and even major sites like Mashable.

Joke by Michael Arrington about Techcrunch Hack
There are not much details yet about why the site was hacked and how come it was. Many readers are mentioning about the Iranian Cyber Army but this attack on Techcrunch was not a DDOS one (the Iranian favorite). It was rather a loophole somewhere withing Rackspace or maybe Techcrunch.com itself that allowed the hacker to take control on the directory of the site.
The other sites of Techcrunch Network was still working while the main one was down. For now Techcrunch is up and loading as usual but the details about today’s issue is yet to be made public.
