Jayen Chellum and ACIM Win – Hunger Strike Ended

Jayen Chellum and ACIM finally won the nearly 14 days battle. The hunger strike of Jayen Chellum ended today afternoon after the Mauritian Government accepted to remove the penalties against ACIM and also refund all money blocked since January 2009.

Jayen Chellum had a meeting with Minister Sithanen and Bappoo today and negotiations went on for about 2 hours. The Government is going to pay ACIM Rs 767243 as from tomorrow which is the sum of money that ACIM should have received for period January 2009 to December 2009.

Also all penalties such as NPF penalty and MRA penalties are going to be canceled as ACIM is not at fault for not being able to pay these institutions on time.

Finally it’s courage, determination and justice who win. But this is also a win for the Mauritian Population. For this victory, all people who supported ACIM and also people who indirectly supported other groups who were in turn supporting ACIM are to be congratulated.

Unlike those who didn’t!

Thank you guys for the moral support and solidarity expressed to Jayen Chellum. As one of the spokeperson of the Support Committee , I am very delighted to see while we were busy accompanying Jayen in his hunger strike, we could not realised the mobilisation that was going on through the internet.

On behalf of the Support Committee, l’ ACIM and Jayen, we would like to put on record our appreciation for all that you have through the internet.

Thank you again for this initiative.
