Chile Earthquake 2010 Moved Concepcion City by 3 Meters!
This is not one really nice sign! The recent earthquake in Chile of magnitude 8.8 has resulted in cities being moved by even 3 meters! Concepcion, the city which was closest to the epicenter has moved about 3 meters to the west of its original position!
Map showing quake result – Via University of Hawaii
Reported today by New Scientist, this observation was concluded by Mike Bevis and his team at the Ohio State University, Columbus. Their observation concluded that the city called Concepcion moved by at least 3 meters to the west.
And you know what this make us think about when the earth landscape start to move so much suddenly? We better do not mention about it. Scientifically this is not something which has happened for the first time, but seeing it happen now near a highly populated region is a matter of concern. A sign?
Mike Bevis even found that Santiago moved approximately 20 centimeters to the west-south-west and even Buenos Aires moved by some centimeters from its original position. It is an instability of our planet which lead us to worry.

Nothing unusual. Moving of continental plates is as old as the planet itself. However, yes, when you think about it consuming human lives, it is sad.
I like the UoM comment. When the surveillance cameras are on, even people will have trouble moving without being scrutinized…

I dont know why you have Calama on the map. Concepcion city is in a totally different part of the country. Concepcion is in the 8th region, which is basically right in the middle of the country. Calama is in the North of the country. The earthquake affected mostly Talcahuano city due to the tsunami and the earthquake. Please be careful with the information you upload, people might actually believe you.
I am a survivor of the earthquake. I live in Talcahuano and it was very frightening. Not only did was I woken up by the movements of the earthquake but then I had to get dressed, get my baby and run with my husband to the nearest hill in case of a tsunami.

Hi Margarita. Yes sorry for that previous map. I was still looking for a detailed map to show the movement and placed the previous map to fill the space only. Already updated with the right map showing the cities which have moved. (Credit: University of Hawaii).
Btw, I am glad you managed to save yourself and your family from this disaster. Should you wish to share what really happened there from a witness point of view, do not hesitate.
