When kajol did fanaa she was exactly the age that madhuri was in dtph!!! madhuri did a film at 40 without any hero and she was super brilliant in that as well. Only the film was poor. In Gupt the hidden true was she who make the most impact on the audience as the same is Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. I recomend you to go and see Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain or Sapnay, this movies belong only to kajol. Fanaa and U me our hum are finest performances of her. In conclusion, do not be so mad. okay fine, do you not know Madhuri is nearly 9 year older than Kajol. Madhuri debuted 8 year before Kajol so Madhuri is much senior than her. Even Manisha is senior than Kajol by age and by starting date as well. Rani is junior than Aiushwariya both by age and start date. so correct those order from Madhuri then Manisha then Kajol then Aishjwariya then Rani then Deepika. (here I have mentioned only start date because by age kajol should be after Aishwariya.

Her expressions while dancing, how she plays with her all face all the time. Madhuri only smile or take good glaces, she does not do what Sridevi does. And for you informacion the first actress to rule bollywood like and actor was Sridevi. People used to say that Sridevi is the man because if she is in the film no matters who is the leading actor. And I just talking about power in the box office and the audience not in the acting and movies skill where other actress like Sabhana Azmi or Meena Kumari are in other level. @Zeeshan, Sridevi is on the list. See the movies Lahme or Mr. India. She is fantastic. Hema Malini is a really good actress. Who can forget Seeta our Geeta and Sholay but she is a legend too and if the list would be longer I will write her name next to Jaya Bacchan, Rani Mukerji and Rekha.

Madhuri Dixit won the Female Mega Star of the Millenium on 12/12/1999 in the contest conducted by Kinetic Mega Show on Star TV, the Asian cable channel. She also won the filmfare mega millennium poll 1/27/2000.
tribuneindia reported that she became the woman/actress of the millennium. Amitabh won the male version.
March 2000, Zee Premiere reports, “She became the star of the millennium ahead of unforgettables like Madhuri, Nargis.”

I know madcarmencita is talking about the award that was given to amitabh and nargis in 2001 by hero honda and stardust, it was called “best artistes of the millennium”. It was given by hero honda and stardust. The film Mother India also got many awards in that function. Madhuri won the actress/star of the millennium and by direct voting (where Nargis was also a nominee) as well as selection as it was reported by multiple sources and was more publicised.

She is now pregnant with second child and I hope she still keep working after delivery. She is one of few actress that has broken the rules in bollywood in her own way. I appreciate that and her talent of course. A film like Udhaar Ki Zindagi (1994) before DDLJ would prove you that she is a natural. I do not denied that Srk Kajol jodi has popularity and it helps a lot (for both not only Kajol), but in my case (not Srk fan) it doesn’t work.

@mahesh kolkarni, I wanted to reply you here because your lists are interesting. First of all, I know you like madhuri more and I do`nt have any problem with that. In my case I love Nargis the most because of her films and my list of favorite actresses goes that way too. I have seen many films of Madhuri and I really like her but there are other actressess that I like more. That is not my fault so do`nt attact me in that way. For me, Madhuballa is the most beautiful actress followed by Aishwayra (only looks). In grace is Madhuballa too followed by Madhuri. Icconic actress for me is first Nargis considered the first leading lady of India Cinema followed by Meena Kumari the tragic queen and Madhuballa the eternal beauty. In actting skills is really hard to choose but I prefer Shabana Azmi for her intense performances, after that is Meena Kumari, Nutan and filnally Sridevi for her versatility. In terms of all time dancer, I agree with you. Same with the expresion making with the expection that I prefer Sridevi over madhuri in the last one. For me the actress with the best comic timing is Sridevi, the best crying scenes is Kajol, the best smile and dance is Madhuri.

2)mistake by u.that madhuri is much better dancer and expression maker than sri devi.
3) 3rd mistake kajol is good in acting no doubt.but perhpas u did not see the movie of anjaam and khal nayak.then note madhuri acting while in angry and crying.

1)In my opinion, Madhuballa is the eternal beauty of bollywood. I agree that Jaya Prada is beautiful but Madhuballa has something else. I repeat, is just my aopinion. If it is only in look, Aishwayra wins over Madhuri. But Madhuri has a connection with the audience that Aishwayra not.
2)Yea, Madhuri is the best Dancer and has good expression but I like Sridevi expressions more. Madhuri was first a dancer and then an actress while Sridevi born as an actress, she started at young age.
3) I consider that the crying scenes of Kajol the best because are the most memoranble (in KKHH the last part, KKKG when her dad dies, in Fanaa whe she cries in silence way while expresing her anger to Aamir, in Dushman when she is been attacked by the villain, etc). I have seen Khalnayak and Ajaam too, Madhuri is autstanding when she is saying Sanjay not to love her and defending him in front of the police, the tragic scenes in Dil are Madhuri masterpice, in Beta her confrontaion with Anil after he was poisoned was great and so on. But there are sometimes ahe do not touch me like in Dil to Pagal Hai. I repeat, ii is just my opinion, not want to pull Madhuri down.
4)Also, if an actress is not iconicc, the best of her time, will not still be in the mind of many people of the next generations. Nargis, Meena Kumari and Madhuballa are not in this world but their work are still present and the proof is my comment.

Madhuri actually was always very rooted to her family. Everyone knows that she always had one of her parents with her in sets. Her mom often brought cooked meal from home and sometimes even co-stars used to share it. She always was solid and closely related to her family, she always maintained professional relationship with her co-stars and this is why she never cared about senseless gossips, because she and her parents knew what was true and what was trash. Madhuri’s husband was introduced to her by her family (brother). She is really a very good human being and an ideal woman.

Well, here I thought that we were commenting about our favorites actress about her work, qualities, screen persona, and positive aspects. After all, the personal life of and actress not touch their masterpieces. Nobody would care that Meena Kumari was adicted to alcohol while wacthing Parineeta or Pakeezah. Same think with the movies of Nargis and Raj Kapoor or Hema and Darmendra(people used to think that they were in a relation when Raj and Darmendra were still married to their firts wives). All those personal matters are nothing compared to the classics they have and we love to watch: Awaara, Shree 420, Sholay, Seeta aur Geeta. At the end what it is left is the talent of those legends so just write about that, nothing else please.

Madhuri dixit is the best. She is only one actress who has worked with each & every director and production house of her time .whether it is Subhash ghai, Yash chopra, Sooraj Barjatya or Sanjay leela Bhansali.

Firts of all, is true that Madhuri is a great actress but are wrong at saying other actress can compare to her. I usually remeber Madhubala adn compare to in same movies.
Another thing I think you mistake is your prejuicies of Kajol and Sridevi. You say Kajol only make hits with Srk, Karan Johar and Yash Chopra. That is not true. I admit that she her only three production with Yash Chopra where superhits(Yeh Dillagi in 1994, DDLJ IN 1995 and Fanaa in 2006)so the movies that with Srk and Karan Johar (Baazigar in 1993, Karan Arjun in 1995, DDLJ in 1995, KKHH in 1998, KKKG in 2001 and My name is Khan in 2010). However those were not the only hits in Kajol career even she never worked with famous directors as other actress(Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar where new directors in DDLJ and KKHH). In 1998,she had 3 movies in the top five earners of that year (KKHH was the first and a blockbusgter, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha was the second and a suoer hit, Pyaar Kiya to Darna Kya was in fourth place and a Hit). In 1997 she won the best villain award for the movie Gupt, another hit, and 1999 worked along with Anil Kapoor in Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain that was successful too. Finally, I should mention that Kajol has worked in 27 films until now, almost the half of Madhiri movie and still make nine of her films in the top fifty earners of the 1990 (box office information, if I am wrong then correct me) and Madhuri had only 8 films (Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,Dil To Pagal Hai,Beta,Dil,Khalnayak,Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Raja).
Another think that surprises me is only thinking of Lahme as a Sridevi serious actress. Sridevi is an actress that has made Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam language films. She started acting at the age of four and her firts leading role was at the age of 13. Just to mention hindi movies, have you seen Sadma (1983) where she plays the character of young woman who regresses to childhood after suffering a head injury in a car crash. She and Kamal Hassan make that film a classic specially for the sad end. How about Chandni. Yeah, it was a Yash Chopra film but she play one of the most memorable roles of hindi cinema, she began the Chadni look that inspired roles like Madhuri played in Dil To Pagal Hai (Chopra said that in an interview). Sridevi proved her versatile in movies like Nagina(1986), Laadla(1994), Judaai(1997), Gumrah(1993). She played good roles with easy, the villain roles with strong persona (Laadla) and the best of her is her comedy (in my opinion) showed in Mr. India (19987), Chaalbalz(1989), Gurudev (1993) and in every movie when her role allowed her to do it. Sridevi has not the sensual voice of Mahuri and her nose is not perfect but her ability to look perfect in every shot is remarkable.
Just ask the actors of her generation, her seniors and the new actors, they know how Sridevi is. She was a south actress that succeed in Bollywood.
Finally, you said that Madhuri worked with Salman Khan, Sanjay dutt, Aamir khan & Sanjay Kapoor who were facing downfall in%. That is another mistake. Salman Khan started hios career in 1987 with the blockbuster Maine Pyar Kya and became one of the hearthrobs of the 90 along wirth Amir Khan with QSQT IN 1988. As long as I know Sanjay has a hit film Rocky in 1981 and left beacuse the death of his mother Nargis. Madhuri worked with them in equal conditions, for example before Dil (1990) she was no number one so Aamir (but he had one an National award for Rakh) and in the same year made another film (Deewana Mujh Sa Nahin) that failed at the box office. Along with Sanjay and Salman, she worked in Saajan where the three were good. Sanjay impress me as the lame orphan, Salman as the cheerful brother and lover and Madhuri as the beauty that make those two fall for her. In Khanayak, Sanjay has super as well Jackie Shroff and the dance of Madhuri make me wacth he movie again and again. (Is one of my favorite)The same in HAHK with Salman. Well, in conlusion, I think that Madhuri is great but the actors are the reason of success too, specially the Aamir, Salman and Sanjay that had his fame(remember that Madhuri was not a legend at that time) and proved until now why the are still in the bussiness.

It is not rue salman khan was at downfall at that time, so was amir it is a fact they may have had hits before but they were not getting any check their star status at that time, in fact a movie magazine said is 1991 that amir, salman, anil was going down including some other heroines. Main point is Madhuri’s hits did little to anil salman, or amir at that time while Madhuri became the biggest star. This fact is knows by all. But all the reviews magazines and public view was like that

It also had a bonus called super success of Madhuri…
moreover, madhuri is the only actress who had shows on her name in middle east, USA, even in a non Indian city like boston had a 2 week before sold out of “Madhuri Dixit live”. In the promo of one overseas show with all stars Madhuri Dixit’s name came first ahead of male stars like amitabh, mithun after than divya’s name came and then long after salman khans nam comes.
Madhuri was way ahead of male stars in her time, specifically 90-95. The number 1 thing is crap, BO india makes it with different criteria once based on BO sales, once based on asking price, once based on forthcoming project. Madhuri actually became the most popular and successful write after tezaab and never looked back, and that is why in retrospect trade analyst and media both say she ruled more than a decade.

Kajol has never been a star for her own right, she had hits but it is true that leaving pyar kiya to darna kya and pyar to hona hi tha none other was attributed to her. It is a fact. Madhuri was the biggest star of 90s and largely the biggest star ever. Trade analysts have said that. Kajol has never been seen as a star for her own right, she was never said to be number 1 for real (just one year does not matter), in fact rani mukherji is the only one after Madhuri who had seen for a small time the status of her. Kajol is actually 9 year younger than Madhuri and debuted 8 year after her. If you go by just hits then Katrina has those even more. In fact karisma had euqla success like kajol is 90 only without karan joahr and srk. Karan johar has lot to do with the screen image of kajol. But should know that just by number of hits does not matter, co star factor star value, versatility all are taken into account by media and trade analysts. And it is a fact that kajol is not in the star league as Madhuri, or even Hema or Sridevi.
Madhuri (like sridevi) always got the credit for her films. Even the director admitted that films were renamed as beti and rani. Sanjay kappoor even recently admitted that all madhuri’s blockbusters were credited to her. This is history and fact no one can change it. Amir, salman, sanjay, anil no one had significant success with anyone else. Only Madhuri was consistent. By dil Madhuri was more popular than anyone else, it is true. You have said what you liked or not, salman and amir were just chocolate boys at that time.
Sridevi’s real hits are himmatwala, maqsad, mawali, justice chowdhury, karma, nagin, inquilaab etc. going by your logic all sri’s major hits are with stars who were much bigger than her at that time so sri has no credit ! You see this does not work. As for sridevi’s versatility in amovie magazine in 92 they made critical analysis of all actors looking at strength and weakness, they praised sri a lot and said even amitabh wants to act with him but they said “ sri’s gamut of expression is from A to B, she is fantastic in a given style but hardly versatile and big time sri should stop making those stereotype gestures” finally them approved jayapradha’s comment “making faces is not acting”. Chadni and dtph both are made by YC and chadni is before so it is obvious he may get inspired from one role, but he recently said he would not have made dtph without madhuri.

Kajol is a nice actress, I like her, but it is also true that her entry to stardom was much due to chemistry with srk and karan johar and YC films. in 98, 99 she had hits without srk but that was a result of stardom and more importantly good script and film, the one woman BO pull was finished after Madhuri (before her it was sridevi). but anyway madcarmencita does not like srk much so no point arguing with madcarmencita
I want to clarify that I never said that Kajol wins over Madhuri in stardom. In fact, what I want to point out is that Kajol had hits with other stars and home prosuctions, not only Srk and Yash Chopra. It will be unfair if people said that Madhuri became famous because of her films with Anil at the begging of her career, so do not do that with other actress. Nargis worked in major hits with Raj Kapoor, Hema with Dharmendra, and so on. That is not a reason to said that those actress not own their stardom, they have worked hard for it.
Second, I have not see all Sridevi movies (they are more than 100) and Madhuri movies (some are difficult to find). But I am sure that all actress have repeat a role more than once or the audience have put them in a certain character. (Example Srk in romantic roles) But those actors have accepted with their movies the challenge. In 1992, Sridevi had not Laadla or Judaai that prove her in negatives roles. As far as I know, Madhuri was also put in a role of the classic heroine, in the likes of Madhubala. That is why I make sometimes a comparison with them. On the other hand, Madhuri was not a big star in the 90, she was still in the way and if you check her interviews she will admit it. Madhuri is a very polite and condered person, and respect the others work and tries her best. She never said she was over Sridevi, she repects her. Yea, in Dil, Beta and Raja Madhuri was the best surpassing Aamir, Anil adn Sanjay Kapoor. But it is not true that she was the star of all her films. In Parinda was Jackie Shroff who had the credit for his performance, in Dil to Pagal Hai was not Madhuri the start it was Karisma at that time (chek the videos of DPH the making)and people accept it, in Devdas was Aishwayra with her beauty that stole the show in the movie, As far is in HAHK, I accept that Madhuri was a major star back them but Salman performance complete her very well and both make that film a blockbuster, change Salman and you will notice the diference of success, both Madhuri and Salman are important in the movie. Also is not true that Aamir had not films to his credit in the 90s; after Dil, in fact he may not accept the filmfare awards but his movies won it. In 1988,1990, 1993,1996 his films won the best movie award and had another 7 nominations. Before Lagaan, Aamir Khan was a star (not super star as Srk, Madhuri or Salman) but was more praised because of his acting skills. Sanjay Dutt have mostly work with friends and small home productions, Khalnayak was one of those proyects. That film, as his own father Sunil Dutt admits, was a new start in his acting carreer, critics prarised him the most. Madhuri put her magic on it but not overshowed Sanjay performace and madhuri fans that saw the movies can denied it.

P.d. I not considered my self a die hearth fan of Srk but I like his job, sspecially his films of the early 90s. He did not followed the tendences was militant in Bollywood with films such Baazigar, Ajaam, Darr, Kuch Haa Kuch Naa, but after DDLJ he had accept what audience want and not advance as and actor. The resoult were hit films but without challege. Well every actor has his onw way so I respect and see his movies time to time because are enterteinig and I do not denied that he is a very talent person with charisma.

You are saying Madhuri admitted it that she was not big star..what a joke.. you know that is the specialty of Madhuri, so if you go to madhuri to check her star status you can;t her that. Madhuri was the most popular female star from 1988. She was doing better than anyone and her popularity was on the rise. And in the first half of 90 it was only she who was consistent. your denial will not pull madhuri down, it will not change anything. she had even overseas shows just on her name, her name used to come before even stars like amitabh or mithun. In 1995 you are saying baseless things. karisma was the new star in dtph (specially after raja hindustani) so obviously there was some craze for her as well but it was equal for the 7 year old madhuri as well. And jackie said to filmfare, “ppl liked karisma because she was with madhuri, it was like if someone said a good line in front of dilip kumar.”
as for hahk it was all about madhuri, that was the general respose, a magazine even made a headline “madhuri tera darshak deewana” nobody even cared what would happen if there was not salman. interesting is when it comes to dtph you are referring something (that too a YRF video) but for other case you are saying your own views. Why do you keep referring about FF award which is often biased in fact all awards are biased and can never be a judging factor. So keep the awards to yourself. I really do not understand what your point is I always give credit to everyone who deserves it, amir is a good actor, salman is a inspiring persona and actor, srk is a good actor. salman was not a star before hahk, sanjay did not have big hit other than madhuri, in khalnayak madhuri was perfect in the role, be it her comedy, romance, fear, pian everything was in order (well it was always perfect anyway). sanjay was good too and they complemented. But it is true that ppl watched that film for Madhuri, it is for her it got the biggest opening ever. You have to realize that madhuri never got overshadowed by anyone. And I was not saying anything to undermine anyone, you did not have to put credentials or all the actors.
Many of your comments sound joke to me, because you are saying many negative things about Madhuri out of your own imagination and standing by all nearly all her male co-stars in an attempt to minimize her credit. and even it continues for her female co-stars, that means you are using nearly 9/10 actors to avoid giving Madhuri her due. I am very happy to hear that you saidf ash overshadowed madhuri with her beauty, because that conclusively shows you taste and views. While I will not argue that because I think Ash did got rave reviews over Madhuri for her beauty and also she delivered a controlled performance for the first (and may be last) time, but even Guardian newspaper wrote “though former miss world ash gets higher billing, Madhuri dixit’s femme fatale steals the show”.
There is one more critic article in 2006 that titled “plastic coated primma donna” that clearly says who stands where.

@Nita, It is true that I just giving me opinion and I think that people that write commentaries are doing the same so I do not see anything wrong in that. But you have misunderstood my words, what I said was that Madhuri was modest and respectful person, nothing else. Of course people see her as a star but she remaind a simple and sincere person. About Karisma Kapoor and Aishwayra I just said that they were more popular at those time and had more attention of the public. And I do believe that Aish is more beautiful only in looks because she was first a model so I also do nor see anything wrong in that. I know too that Salman and Sanjay had biggest hits with Madhuri and I do not deny her star power I just only said that they were part of the succes, the las part of the song Dedi tera dewar dewanaa when Salman Khan was “pregnant” was hillarous and can be replaced.
Finally, if I mention other actors is becauoes we are here to discuss about 10 Bollywood Actress of all the time and not only of Madhuri. It fine to write about her but I also like to comment in my other favorites actress, that is all.
So I like Madhuri, I consider my self her fan but when I find some comments unfair to other actors I want to reply.

She had limited scope due to script. Jackie was awesome in the script that gave him the scope

Madhuri is in the US, her parents, husband and close friends are not from the Industry. She decided to do an arrange marriage to live with the rest of her family in overseas. She was brought back and a film was made by YRF only for her. The film is flop fine, but see how much fanfare was there and how rave reviews she got. Even NYT said, “she still got it”. A UK based magazine named her as the second most sexy asian woman at the age of 40!!! Kajol was not even in top 10. Madhuri got many offers but because of her family criteria she turned down all. She is a legend beyond she does not have to keep associating herself with hits juts to be there. I don’t know if you are aware or not Amir has completely changed himself since lagaan, and with minimum film doing he has nearly all success. I don’t talk insane like you and kajol was perfect in faana. But since 2001 amir is always the dricing force for his films, she was never the driving force. I talk sane, in ishq it was team effort and entertaining movie, and kajol was fine as always. The craziest thing is you think even MNIK is hit for kajol!!! Madhuri- anil is the best jodi and see where anil stands as star and where madhuri, just check the records go and read all the magazines of those days. srk kajol are the best jodi and see where srk stand and where kajol stands. Otherwise in 80s Bhagyasree would have the best ratio.

kajol is a fine actor, but when acting has some different meaning to you only then you could have said something like the first line. I don’t think you even have the sense to understand Madhuri’s depth, versatility, emotive skills and the her ability to control the voice. I don’t understand your last line, okay Kajol may have exceeded the status of hema or sri, in fact for me she has already exceeded. But Madhuri is far ahead. Madhuri, Madhubala, Nargis is the real top 3 ever considering everything. When Madhuri was voted as the actress of the millennium she was just ahead of Madhurbala, even for Zeenews poll in 2003 Madhuri was ahead of Madhubala.

@Nita, It is true that 1998 was the single year of Kajol full success, she was in the peak of her career when she married. Also that affected her carreer but Kajol always prefered her personal life and saw doing movies as a hobby. But it is not true that because she married and actor, and her family is from the bussiness are the reasons why she is famous. Other actress that have the same conditions are not the half of success that Kajol had and still have. She was more lucky than others but she got talent to get what she got. On the other hand, Comparing Madhuri and Kajol acting is gona depent in personal choises, Kajol can not do what madhuri do and Madhuri can not do what Kajol do. They are diferent types of acting and are superb in their movies.
Finally, I just gonna say that it is very sad that both actress put in a hold her carreers for the sake of family, both are a joy to watch and I would like to see more of them, specially Madhuri.

If you wanted to say that Madhuri was more beautiful than Kajol, I give you the reason but the eyes of Kajol are too atractive that you forget her looks, she aldo have a good smile.
