Mauritius Zip Code – The Stupid Secret!

The zip code for Mauritius is simply: 742CU001 – Note: 00230 is our phone code and NOT the zip code & that’s why when applying to adsense or any similar site asking for zip code you get errors.

May seem like a weird stupid post for readers outside Mauritius, but believe me, our Island is so small that everyone has a problem to find its Zip Code lol.

I apply the above on yahoo site but the site fails to recognize the ZIP Code and reject my entrance. Is the zip code fake?

Thanks to all too.. cela m`a retirer une epine du pied de savoir le code postale de notre Ile. Le ZIP est la Cerise sur le gateaux. C`est tres interessant mais ce sont la des info a faire publier car tres utiles.Seryer merci.

  @Sun, 00230 works on many sites too…infact ANY code can work But its coz they do not really validate the zip code. However on some sites they require real zip code. And in fact we do not have a real zip code but the one above works… but as someone said above, it does not… weird. But imo it works…even on adsense registration.

LOL, this is quite funny actually because the administration here in France always goes berserk when they have to get info on me as I’m from Mauritius. Example: I had problems at the bank for interest rates because part of them are based on your place of birth and they could not define Cottage, Rivière du Rempart, Ile Maurice.

Facts about Mauritius here in France:
Mauritius is in the group: autres pays d’Afrique.
Mauritius zip/departement number in France (like Nord=59, Isère=38) is 390.

      Recently we were asked to confirm zip code again at well known site used for delivery, the code mentioned here worked even if you live in any region of mauritius because the postal service here do not mind about this code. Alternatively you can call the postal service of mauritius to get the precise code (if any) for your home address.

  The French INSEE code for Mauritius is 99390:
  
  99 = foreign country
  3= Africa
  90 = Mauritius
  
  Zip code and INSEE code is not exactly the same (although the 2 first digits are identical, the 3 last digits are usually different). Zip code is used by the postal services and INSEE code is used by the French administration. For example, citizens born in Mauritius and living in France will see 99390 somewhere in their French social security number.
  
  Anyway, I often use 99390 on French sites and it usually works fine although I sometime receive puzzled email from the webmaster because french zip codes don’t go beyond 98xxx (French overseas territories)

Yeah, you are right..but “742CU001″ is not recognized when you sign up @ adsense and when they reply you, it says that postal code not included or wrongly inputted… Although they provide it as a sample, then when replied still same thing… use 123AB123 or 230MU230 I think !n

This is NOT the zip code for Mauritius.

I’m almost sure that this is one of the tests that were made over 5 years ago when there was a project to introduce zip codes to Mauritius. The CU was supposed to be for the CUREPIPE region. Finally, it was never implemented.

  Yes but somehow (or weirdly since we do not really have zip codes), this one when used on registration pages like adsense works. Google is no more accepting the 00230 one now.

  Personally I don;t think it will be useful in Mauritius, but some sites require it. On some it is optional…so even entering any one works…but one some like I mentioned above… this one only works.
