Bollywood features hundreds of movies each year and 2010 was not an exception. Among those hundreds of movies, some movies reached a wider audience and were super hits while others were like drying octopus. On this start of the new year of 2011, we list for you here the top 10 movies of last year (2010) from Bollywood. If you missed some of these, then these movies are worth a watch!
1. Dabangg
Salman Khan! One words sums it all up. This movie smashed every box office record by raking in Rs 14 crores on the very first day of the release. Salman’s dance moves coupled with the super hit “Munni Badnaam Hui” ensured Dabangg the number one spot. Read our review of Dabangg here.
2. Golmaal 3
This is a surprise entry because no one expected the crazy comedy to work for a third straight time! Idiotic characters and fourth highest grossing movie on Indian box office of all time make it number two. Read our review of Golmaal 3 here.
3. Peepli Live
The hard hitting black comedy questioned media ethics and portrayed rural poverty like no other movie in the past. Read our review of Peepli here.
4. Once Upon a Time in Mumbai
A stellar performance by Ajay Devgan and Emraan Hashmi combined with the shady Mumbai underworld made for a heady cocktail that made this one stick in the public memory. Who can forget the non expiring song Pee Loon. Trailer below! You can also read our review of the movie here.
5. Robot
The mere presence of Superstar Rajnikanth is more than reason enough. Add in Aishwarya Rai as eye candy and the most expensive budget for a Bollywood movie and you have a film that leads people to theatres like pied piper. I will not say much on the movie as opinion about this movie varies but the presence of these superstars did make a wonder. Robot review can be found here.
6. Rajneeti
An all-star cast, powerful story and great climax made sure that Rajneeti lived up to its hype. Performances by Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Ajay Devgan made the movie unforgettable. I went to watch this movie and believe me, even if you go with your girlfriend, you will stop the kiss for a while to watch this movie. (Hehe!)
7. Band Baaja Baaraat
This one is a surprise entry because the end of 2010 saw a surprise hit by two relatively newcomers when the major stars had failed.
8. Tere Bin Laden
This was a small budget movie that captured the attention due to the presence of the very face of terror in it. But, that was not just it. People fell in love with the character portrayed by Ali Zafar. He turns an average Joe into Osama Bin Laden and literally shakes the mighty USA in its boots. Great movie! Great Story!!
9. My Name is Khan
Most people expected another mushy affair from Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan but the sensitive story line and stellar performance by the King Khan turned it all around and gave a heart warming story of a man who travels across the US for his love and wins the heart of many people during his journey.
10. Love. Sex Aur Dhokha
Many may not agree with this choice but the movie has acquired a cult status of sorts. The movie with its brazen title, no established stars and multiple stories into each other took the tinsel town by surprise.
