Exports of STPI units seen at more than Rs 5 lakh crore in FY22 despite the Omicron wave

The increase in COVID cases driven by the rapidly spreading Omicron variant is not expected to disrupt the performance of units registered under the STPI program with proven remote work protocols already in place, according to a senior official. The software export value of Software Technology Parks of India units is expected to exceed Rs 5 lakh crore in FY 22, almost similar or slightly higher levels than in the previous year, said Arvind Kumar, Managing Director of STPI.

Security protocols enabled in previous waves of COVID have resulted in the adoption of an efficient remote working model, and the digital nature of the work has allowed STPI units to maintain service continuity without disruption.

The value of software exports from units registered under the STPI program is expected to be just over Rs 5 lakh crore in fiscal year 22, compared to nearly Rs 4.96 lakh crore in fiscal year 21, Kumar said.

“We will not be below the levels achieved in FY21, as the remote working model has matured and proven itself. All the arrangements for working from home are already in place and the online approval process is underway, ”Kumar told PTI.

Therefore, the growing number of Omicron cases in the country is not expected to disrupt the performance or activities of these software units, he added.

No less than 4,689 units are registered under the SPTI regime.

Software Technology Parks of India or STPI is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) established to encourage, promote and stimulate software exports from India.

STPI aims to nurture a culture of technological entrepreneurship and innovation in the country by launching more than 25 entrepreneurship centers in emerging technological fields.

It is one of the largest tech incubators in India with an area of ​​around 13 lakh square feet spread across various cities of level 1/2/3. It also helps in formulating India 2.0 BPO promotion program. In addition, to strengthen the electronics sector, STPI has undertaken the deployment of the Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) program.

It has focused on promoting the country’s IT and IT service exports by providing one-stop-shop regulatory services under the STP and Electronic Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) programs, plug and play incubation facilities for start-ups and young entrepreneurs as well as high-speed data communications services for seamless access to offshore IT / ITES exports.
